Uh, Harvard (Kennedy)?

Your point? Who’s to say they wouldn’t, for the right amount of money?

If you can’t put your name on their law/medical/business school, buy them a new building instead and they’ll be happy to name it in honor of you.

I guess he decided not to pursue the thread!

I just did some quick research on this. No point in posting all of it since the original post has been deleted, but both Harvard and Yale were named after donors and many of their buildings have been named after donors, too.

Might be because your first post nullified the title statement. Good one on catching the Harvard-Kennedy name association.

In 1966, The Harvard Graduate School of Public Administration (GSPA) was renamed the “Harvard Kennedy School” in memoriam to Harvard alumnus, President John F. Kennedy, Jr.

Yes, but the Kennedy family has poured millions into Harvard over the years.

<in 1966,=“” the=“” harvard=“” graduate=“” school=“” of=“” public=“” administration=“” (gspa)=“” was=“” renamed=“” “harvard=”" kennedy=“” school"=“” in=“” memoriam=“” to=“” alumnus,=“” president=“” john=“” f.=“” kennedy,=“” jr.=“”></in>

I meant JFK, not JFK Jr.

Who’s to say they would?

Correlation =/= Causality

In this case, knowing that the Kennedy family has been generous donors to the university, the university being generous in return because of past donations is not an unreasonable conclusion.

Since Harvard lost $9 BILLION dollars of their endowment in the recession (and a billion more of liquid assets due to playing risky investment schemes) the Harvard name may have been marked down a bit. Their vaunted new science complex was stopped after completing the foundation due to lack of money.

I think prestige is more stagnant in that the name doesn’t go up and down along with a university’s finances. Harvard is still Harvard.

Jr. went to Brown.

p.s. this thread is totally ridiculous – any place can be “bought” for the right price and influence. George W. Bush (Andover “C” student –> Yale –> Harvard B-school) is the poster child for this. He was an average student at best, wasn’t a great athlete, didn’t have any outstanding ECs, wasn’t a URM… but he came from a powerful and wealthy family – you do the math.
