only one point to requirement!!!?

Hello guys
I have applied MIT and Im an international student. I got 89 on TOEFL iBT and the MIT’s minimum is 90. Will they drop me from the admission or they will look at the whole picture.
Thanks so much for replying.

Well, being an international student will put a lot of strain on you. Your TOFEL score is one point below which means they may drop your admission. However, how are your academics. Unless you have an 780+ on the SAT I MATH section with at least a 650 and above in Writing and Reading and 700+on your Math and Science SAT II’s with a good GPa you may have a very long shot at it. Sorry

MIT says the SAT I is not required for int students but yeah good GPA and SAT II scores and strong recom letters and interview. What about now? Will they look at these?

Absolutely they will. But you have to understand that even people here in the US like a frind of mine who has 4.0/2400 sat/800 in Chem SAT II and Math II/ plus a 36 on her ACT and in ALL IB Classes and AP Classes along with 10 different EC’s and is 1/950 and she was rejected, they are very unpredictable. However, don’t give up. In the end everything should be ok  Contact them directly to see if that may pose any problems. Are you currently in the US? If not just look up the time zone differences and give them a call at the appropriate time, just to add some security to yourself you know ?!?! Anyways good luck !!!

They will most likely drop you immediately from consideration with the 89. 90 is their cutoff - meaning everything under that most likely goes in the trash. The 90 is the lowest score they will consider and it makes it much easier to go through apps if they have such a cutoff. They probably don’t even look at anything under a 90 unfortunately.

Well, MIT is sorta mysterious! Thanks for helping. I don’t live in US and don’t have any idea on other colleges! :((

Now here, just keep at it and make sure to call them!!! This will put you at ease about what will happen. Plus, you can also try many other great schools if you want to come to the US to study. Stanford, RPI, Purdue, along with others are top US Engineering Schools. You just need to believe in yourself and think positive. Research these and other top US engineering schools and apply!! You could at least get into one of them given your stats I know it. ;)

Did you take this option also, or just the TOEFL??

SAT Reasoning Test or the ACT Plus Writing; and two SAT Subject Tests: one in math (level 1 or 2), and one in science (physics, chemistry, or biology e/m).

No just TOEFL and SAT II although they are not offered in our country.

Okay. I was hoping you did since MIT would accept either. I hope you get in but I know MIT is so competetive for International applicants (they accpet 100 out of 3,000 applicants). I think you should apply at some other US schools just in case. Maybe make another post or search CC for top engineering schools. Good luck.

Thanks so much!
