UUSOM only accepts ~170 students/year.

That’s awful. Sorry to hear that happened.

Ugh. Every year this happens at some school (med school or not.)

It’s really bad. How does this even happen?

This breaks my heart every time it happens. Those poor students!

Yeah, it’s bad, but apparently most of the students receiving the email had never been offered an interview. A number had never even completed their secondaries or had already received rejection notices. So a fairly good number of those getting the email had pretty good idea that something was very wrong with notification to complete their FAFSA so their FA could be calculated.

Still I hope someone in the admissions office just got a major reprimand on their HR record. It’s a big screw up.

BTW, Utah isn’t the only med school to have done this. In 2020, Mayo SOM sent out several hundred of actual acceptance emails to applicants. (Not just notices to file their FA documents.)

In response, the accepted-then-rejected applicants had 2000 pounds of mayonnaise delivered to the med school.
