Op-Ed in Daily Pennsylvanian

Interesting - I highly doubt the views of these two students are accurate for the school overall, but this seems like an interesting article.

Thoughts?

I think it depends on where you are and what you’re looking for. I had plenty of classes where my classmates and I would continue class discussion for literally hours after class ended. I also had classes where the books closed and we didn’t think about it again until the next meeting.

I have friends with whom an intellectual conversation seems hilariously ridiculous, but I have far more friends with whom conversations about inane things can very quickly turn into high intellectual conversation. To be fair, though, I didn’t develop those friendships fully until junior and senior years, once people had settled into their own skin and recognized that it’s okay to think intellectualy, act practically, drink socially (or heavily!) and combine the three on a regular basis.

The op-ed piece makes the situation seeem a little more “anti-intellectual” than I think it should, but it makes a good point.

While I like the message of this article, I feel like it paints a narrow and inaccurate picture of the school. I have never run into this issue at Penn personally.
