Open Discussion : To what extend does your understanding in English affects your IQ score?

This is an open discussion based on a Amy Tan’s quote on Mother Tongue essay. Amy Tan is An Asian American writer born in Oakland 1952. In her essay “Mother Tongue”, she quotes:“But I do think that the language spoken in the family, especially in immigrant families which are more insular, plays a large role in shaping the language of the child. And I believe that it affected my results on achievement tests, I.Q. tests, and the SAT.”

I see what she’s trying to imply but I wasn’t born in an English speaker country. English is my second language yet I could score 132 for my IQ test which was written in English. Do you agree with her quotes? To what extend do you agree or disagree?

Below, I’ll post the link where I got my IQ test. Please feel free to take your IQ test and place the score below and your country of origin including your native language. Large participants will be much appreciated. Thank you!

I wouldn’t put any stock in online IQ tests.

That IQ test did have English-centric questions, and the instructions were in English. So it’s not only measuring your general intelligence; it’s measuring your understanding of English. And some people would argue that the range of questions that was asked is not an accurate reflection of a person’s intelligence.

It’s not so much that people for whom English is their second language can’t be proficient and even perfectly fluent in English. But there are many reasons why people who spend all of their time with family, peers, and community speaking in another language might not do as well on such a test as people who speak in English all of the time.

OP
Is this a thread to discuss English-centric testing? Or a platform to boast your IQ?

I wouldn’t bother to boast my IQ, this is an OPEN DISCUSSION. Read all of my description carefully please. I disagree with the statement of understanding in English affects your IQ and that’s why I posted my IQ score to prove it wrong. Thank you.

That’s not the point, what I’m asking is does your understanding in English affects your score in IQ test?

OnMyWay2013 - Okay I do understand if all of the contents were in English but I could do it. My point is why did Amy Tan relate it to her score in IQ test while the fact she was born here? Her English should be better than me. I’m not a native English speaker, she’s a native English speaker. Do you see what’s my point? That’s why I disagree with her opinion. Thank you for your response, I hope to hear from you soon.
