Hey everyone,

Just wanted to relate an experience that I had this morning and see what everyone’s opinions are on it. So here goes - in order to save time in traffic and gas money I commute in to DC with my boyfriend in the mornings and usually nap in his car until I have to go to make my classes on time. It is in an underground parking garage in a very safe, professional neighborhood with lots of government employees (i.e. relatively secure).

So this morning we get in at about 7:30am and I set my alarm for 9:00 and go to sleep. Around 8:30 I wake up to someone rapping on the window. It’s a really tall, heavy-set man in a yellow jacket saying, “Open the door. I have to ask you some questions.” Uh, yeah - as if that is really going to happen. I shake the sleep off and take a closer look at him. He’s wearing a cheap looking badge on a chain around his neck and keeps rapping on the window saying, “Open the door. Open the door. Open the door.” Of course I’m yelling through the window, “No, I’m not going to open the door. Who are you?” He won’t answer my question and at this point I’m starting to get a little creeped out.

I pick up my cell phone to call my boyfriend and the guy starts shaking his head and saying, “No, what are you doing? Stop calling. Open the door. I just want to ask you questions.” Rap, rap, rap. He even checked the door handle once. Of course I’m just yelling through the window, “No, I’m not going to open the door” and when I get in touch with my boyfriend and say their is some crazy guy banging on the window telling me to open the door he says he’ll be right down - and within a minute he is in the parking garage.

This guy is telling my boyfriend that he’s security and I should have opened the “window” (even though the whole time he was talking to me it was “open the door”) because he needs to see if I’m okay since I was sleeping in the car. There may have been fumes and also what if it wasn’t even my car. He’s yelling at my boyfriend and saying that I can’t sleep in the garage - anyway, it turns into a big deal where my boyfriend goes to his supervisor and resolves the issue. According to everyone in the security office there is no problem with me napping in the car.

The security guards position was that I should have obeyed him because he’s a security guard. I’m saying I’m 5’2 and weigh 115 pounds - I’m staying in the car. What do you think?
