Operations Internship at Goldman Sachs

spiderman, is this in jersey city?
ps. still havn’t heard from them yet. not even a rejection email…i guess i’ll just hold. i’m not sure what else to do, def. wouldnt want to be checking my email very 30 secs though.

hey,
it was in jersey city
also, don’t check ur email! sit by ur phone
i got a phone call, but i never actually got an email

spiderman,
that’s awesome. i’m hoping if and when i get declined it would be via the email. i dont really wanna hear them say …ohh thank you for ur time blah blah.
I got in touch with one of the recruiters, and i asked what exactly being on hold meant, and the way she explained it basically made me realize that I probably won’t get it. It comes down to if anyone declines the offer, then more spots open up, but i doubt anyone will, since gs is one of the best companies to work for.

well, you never know…

some people might have applied for front office positions (even at companies with less prestige), and ops as a back up. if they really want to pursue ibanking or whatever, they would give up the gs ops and head over to the other position, if they got accepted. just one very possible scenario that comes to mind.

spiderman, how was the gs ops event for today?

hey jay, did you hear anything yet?

ugh, well, i didn’t get it…so bummed out. :(

good luck to everyone! hope ya’ll get good news.

aw sorry arcad :[
i’m stillllll waiting.
Did they call you or email?

ps. the way im going to see it is one door closes, another one opens.
don’t stress too much

thanks, dice. that’s a good way to look at life…hope that’s the case for me.

i got an email. i don’t think they’ll call if it’s regarding a rejection.
it’s funny how they hit you with an email when you least expect it, and not when you’re, like, consistently refreshing your inbox.

that’s certainly a long period of waiting, but it’s good to know you weren’t dinged. hopefully, you’ll land an offer! we need more good news in this thread.

arcad, keep your head up. I also got dinged a couple weeks ago for the SA position in Ops, and dice819 is right, things will open up for you. I’ve interviewed at other boutique firms and something is bound come my way.

I’m planning on using this experience to improve on my weakpoints and hopefully land a full-time offer with GS Ops when I graduate. So if anything, take your interview experience in a positive light and look to improve on your weaknesses for your full-time job search for when you graduate; because that is what is MOST important.

Cheers

Weg, good point.
Yeah, I’m still waiting actually. i know i’ll be annoyed as hell if i get a rejection by this friday cause then it would be 3 weeks which they had made me wait. just wanna know already!!

hey i got an offer from gsam…said no…so hopefully theres a spot that will open up…(i doubt though they assume 100% yield)

Hey spiderman,
How long did it take to get a response after your Second interview. I did mines on friday 14th of March…

hey wegmanstuna, thanks for the positive words. you’re definitely right. just like you, i’ve know what my weakpoints are, and i’ve been working on them. persistence does go a long way.

i hope your search is going well; i’m sure you’ll get something since you seem very determined. did you receive any offers yet? i’m still waiting for something to come along…

I’m not sure if anyone still reads these posts, but i’m still on hold. Has anyone else experienced this? I have been keeping in touch with the recruiter and shes saying that theyre waiting for the ops department to make up their minds…

hey guys i may have come into this a bit late

– so i have two job offers-- one with goldman sachs operations and the other with citi GCG-- commercial business analyst-- which should i take?

i have been working in goldman sachs operations since i graduated school 4 years ago. i’m making over 125k comp + bonus, more than the average undergrad “front office” trader or i-banker. again, i say average. of course you will have your freaks of nature with tremendous talent who pull in the mega big bucks, but that’s 1 out of 500. i can only laugh at the above posts about ops being the bottom of the firm. ask anyone who’s working in the front office. they’re all wondering if they will be losing their jobs at the moment. since my position is absolutely required for the firm to operate, i sleep well at night, and enjoy riding in my new porsche 911 on the weekends.

gs_ops1, it is nice to have security!

I was wondering if you can answer a question for me - so I hear that the research department can’t sustain itself from just doing research, so I was wondering what the bonus situation for research analysts are? How are they evaluated?

I’m applying for IB, research, and ops in a few days - any insights will be appreciated!

research, if you’re good, can be rewarding…but that applies to every department. evaluation is obviously based on how good your recommendations are. performance is key. if you suck at it, you’ll get canned almost immediately.

bonuses for all analysts (meaning first through third year analysts) is capped across all divisions in the firm (essentially nil relative to what other experienced hires make). a first - third year claiming to make mid-high 5 figures to 6 figure bonuses is simply talking out of their a$$ (yes, even the ib and trading plebes). don’t believe any of it!..call them a straight out liar immediately.

typically, one wouldn’t be applying to all 3 (ib, research, ops). Sounds like you still need to do some homework on what each division does and what kind of skills and talent is required. (translation: don’t apply to all three…be more focused)

hey guys, i just got an email from gs… and it says im on hold… what are the chances for me to actually get to the second round… LOL
Thank you guys… for any insight!

hi bongee0801,
did u end up manage to go to the 2nd-round interview?
I’m still waiting for their decision after my 2nd-round.
