<p>Hey CC, I submitted my Common App to every school that I’m applying to. I am suddenly very self- conscious of the title of my essay, “Essay in the Key of (my first name)”. I don’t really want to discuss the content of the essay, buy I would like your opinion of the title. Thanks!</p>

<p>I can’t really say without knowing the content of the essay. The title should go well with the essay so as to create a consistent and favorable impression.</p>

<p>In other words:</p>
<p>If your essay is such that “In the Key of…” adds to its meaning, is consistent with it, is enlightening about it, opens windows to it–then great! :)</p>
<p>On the other hand, if your essay really seems to have little or nothing to do with “In the Key of…”, if that title seems arbitrary, affected, forced, an effort to appear “creative”–then not great. :(</p>
<p>Thanks! I really don’t think the title is incongruous with the essay, but it doesn’t add too much meaning.</p>
