Hey guys so i went to tour USF and loved it. However I haven’t heard or seen much about their philosophy department. I guess my question is; If I want to go on to graduate school(or maybe even medical school), would a degree in philosophy mean anything or would it just be a waste of money? Am i better off going to a UC? Thanks guys!

Jesuit schools in general have good reputations for philosophy, although I don’t know if this is true for USF specifically. In theory, you could go to med school with a philosophy degree (or any degree, for that matter), as long as you fulfill the basic pre-medical requirements (like organic chemistry) and do well on the MCAT exam. However, it would likely be easier to do those things as a biology or chemistry major. Philosophy majors are more likely to get graduate degrees in fields like law, education, or business.
If you are a California resident, then a UC will probably cost less than a private school like USF, so a UC could be a better value. If you are not Californian, then USF might cost less, because the UCs charge high out-of-state tuition, with no financial aid. In either case, the total cost of attendance will likely be high. Note that San Francisco has the most expensive housing in the country, and the campus housing at USF is limited.
