I really love Stanford. I think it is an amazing school, and everyone there seems to be quite happy. By contrast, half the students at Harvard are suicidal (including many of my friends.) However, my father is a generous Harvard alumnus, and his friends are alumni interviewers. Also, all of my friends and family are in Boston, whereas I know no one in California. I have seasonal depression, but my mother lives in Palm Beach, and I currently fly down to see her about every other weekend during the winter, so as to escape the New England dreariness. I have the following questions:

Would the higher early acceptance rate at Stanford be significantly outweighed by the fact that my dad is an alumnus and the fact that my school routinely sends 12-15 kids (out of 160) to Harvard every year, vs. 3-4 to Stanford?

Do you think it is realistic for me to be able still to fly down to Palm Beach at least once per month (if not twice per month) while at Harvard?

What school do you go to? I live in MA as well.

I think that flying down to Palm Beach once per month wouldn’t be very convenient. It’d cause financial and time issues. I don’t recommend it. I’d say if you loved Stanford, go for it. If you’re stats are good enough for Stanford. I’d say DEFINITELy go for it. It is a very nice place and has a laid-back style accompanied with a great education. But I think if you’re stats aren’t competitive enough for Stanford. but have a higher chance for Harvard. Go for Harvard. =] best of luck. PS. I’m from California. Great place to live. I’m sure you’d love it there if you could attend S.

I would totally go to Stanford over Harvard based on the campus alone

and the fact that the weather is awesome 765/52

I go to Milton Academy.

I like Harvard’s presige and professors, but I am concerned that so many people get depressed, and I’m concerned that profs don’t care about undergrads.

I love everything about Stanford but the fact that it is so far away from my life. However, I feel as if it would be a tremendous growing experience for me.
