So I am new to the site and I like all the discussions, I am here at work and I am just browsing some of the threads.
I go to a full time college. I have other friends that take 6-8 classes in 15 weeks. My classes go for 5 weeks and I take two in this time.
Most of my friends go to the Community Colleges and tried to go for the higher colleges.
Do you think that taking full time college looks better on my resume and gets me more chances in pursuing a higher degree program versus those that went to a community college for part time.
Let me know if you need any information on the type of technical institute I attend.
Are you applying for graduate school or are you planning to transfer to a four-year college from a two-year? Because this forum is for education after the BA.
I think it depends on the kind of school you are trying to go to. If you were a student trying to transfer to a regional college for your BA, and you were a non-traditional student who also wanted to switch to part-time at the four-year school (or to a part-time master’s program), it wouldn’t matter. If you were trying to go to a PhD program or an elite master’s program, then full-time status will probably be better than part-time status.
The most important thing to realize is that going to a graduate program requires a 4-year Bachelor’s degree, community college alone is not sufficient.
If you are asking whether going to a community college and then a 4 year school is a disadvantage when applying to graduate school, then not really. Students start at a community college for financial reasons, not just because they are not academically qualified to start right away at a four-year school. Graduate program susually don’t have a problem with that.
If your question is whether part time is a disadvantage over full time. Well, it will take you longer to get through your Bachelor’s degree but that will not necessarily be a negative. More importantly, if you are part time it may be more difficult to get the research experience that helps your graduate school admission.
Finally, you talk about being in “full time college” but also mention a “technical institute”. You need to be specific and name the colleges you are talking about becuase it is very difficult to provide an opinion when the terms are so vague.
Yeah, this question is difficult to understand - we’re not really sure what it is you’re asking.
