Yesterday, I was made aware that my district’s RYLA is currently accepting applications (and yet, the deadline is tomorrow…the coordinator seems to be suffering terrible time crunch issues =P); the program will take place next Thursday through Sunday.

Usually, I’d be extremely excited about such an opportunity, but this time there are significant costs involved. My main concern is how it might affect my exam preparation; I have 7 AP/IB exams in May (APUSH, AP Stat, AP Psych, AP Language, IB Spanish, IB Psych…if I prep properly, I should be able to score 5/7 on each), and if I attend RYLA, I will be busy every, single weekend until exam time. Furthermore, I’ll have a massive amount of make-up work (I’m a full IB junior) for the Thursday and Friday I miss. The loss of a weekend, in combination with make-up work, will drastically cut down my study time.

Would you–past RYLA attendees, current RYLA applicants, etc.–consider the experience worthwhile, in light of the costs? How do colleges view this program? I hate to sound as if I’m obsessed with college, but here their opinions seem relevant could be the tipping point for me.
