I finally heard back from all of my schools, and I need some advice. I don’t really have a top choice, there are certain aspects of certain schools that I like more than others but overall there isn’t one in particular that stands out above the others. I went in the admissions process thinking I would got into broadcast journalism, so I applied and got into the Walter Cronkite School at Arizona State with $11,000 scholarship a year. I’m planning on changing my major though so I don’t think it makes any sense to go to Arizona State anymore if I don’t want to pursue broadcast journalism since that’s really one of it’s only strong programs. It would be the cheapest option by far however, I didn’t get any financial aid anywhere and my parents said they would pay about $20,000 a year wherever I go.
I also got into University of Colorado Boulder, University of Oregon, Syracuse and University of California Irvine. I got waitlisted to University of Miami but accepted for the second semester…I’m still not 100% set on what I want to major in, but as of right now I’m thinking I want to go to law school. I applied to UCI because it has one of the top criminology programs in the country, but I’ve also heard that undergrad major doesn’t really matter to get into law school. Academically though I would think UCI is the strongest, but I’ve heard the atmosphere there is just kind of dead.
I visited both Colorado and Oregon and loved both campuses. Both have a wide variety of majors, and I got $9,000 a year to Oregon. I’ve almost crossed Syracuse off of my list because of the cost and the weather. I’m from Texas and frankly I don’t think I could survive in Syracuse weather, and that may sound like a silly reason to eliminate one of my choices but I don’t want to be miserable all year. Miami is the most expensive one and while I like the location and the school itself, I think it’s a little overpriced. Plus I only got waitlisted.
