<p>Are the amounts of opportunities available for students at top public schools (Berkeley, UNC, UMich, UVa, etc.), top private schools (HYP, Duke, Dartmouth, Stanford, Columbia, etc.), top LACs (Amherst, Williams, Swarthmore, etc.) different?</p>

<p>Just to give an example, you can go to four years at Berkeley and never speak to a professor, never have your papers even looked at by a professor, never have a professor know your name. You can also spend four years at Berkeley involved in research, taking part in graduate seminars, doing an honors thesis working closely with a professor for a year, etc. etc. The opportunities and limits will depend partly on your choice of major, but mainly on your drive, initiative, and frankly talents.</p>
