Wow, did anyone else see Oprah’s episode last night? I really wasn’t prepared for that. Basically I spent all of last night crying. So sad. I really feel bad for those families.

Can you clue us in what it was about?

I didn’t see the Oprah show yesterday but I went to the website http://www2.oprah.com/tows/slide/200706/20070601/slide_20070601_284_101.jhtml and read about the show. I can understand why you can’t stop crying. The imagine of the mother holding her daughter’s head after her daughter was decapitated in the accident involving a drunk driver is more than heart breaking. Another vivid reminder of why no one should drink and drive.

Just reading the synopsis of the show left tears streaming down my face. I remember when the horrific accident happened, but the details are truly devastating. My heart goes out to that poor family for all they’ve gone through.

We lost three very close friends (two were brothers) to a drunk driver in the mid 80’s. They were in their early 20s at the time; not much older than our oldest son is now. The drunk driver was jailed for a short amount of time, released, and was almost immediately arrested for drunk driving again. After that, we lost track of him.

I saw the beginning of yesterday’s show-- about a grandmother that backed her SUV over her own 4 yo grandchild and a mother who fell asleep at the wheel and 3 of her 6 kids drowned. Couldn’t watch it. Horrible. Turned it off. Was this the same show?

There’s no way that I could have watched that heartbreaking show.

I couldn’t watch that either
I wonder if my D did-
She often loves Oprah & I wasn’t home last night- but she was in a horrible mood this morning- when I dropped her off to take the SATs

I understand that discussing tragedies can be theraputic for some & that in some instances, it can help to prevent further tragedies.
But the " Im so glad it wasn’t me", which is unavoidable, makes me uncomfortable & the " they must have done something wrong", also makes me angry, because it is true- some things are accidents- and no one could have prevented or predicted them-.

BUt I wonder if this is why they are changing the seatbelt laws

Me neither, nsm. I turned it off. Horriffic.
