Optics/Optical Engineering programs

What are some good optics/optical engineering graduate programs? It seems like the usual suspects don’t have dedicated optics departments.

Also, what kind of background do optics people usually have before undergrad? EE? Physics? Mat Sci? I imagine that most optics grad students don’t have optics bachelor’s degrees.

Thanks–

Here is a link from a quick google search that lists 23 optics programs: [Optics Graduate Programs in United States U.S.A.](http://programs.gradschools.com/usa/optics.html)

I also happen to know that the University of Central Florida in Orlando has a pretty decent Optics program through CREOL (The Center for Research and Education in Optics and Lasers (CREOL))

No clue about the second part of your question. Good luck.

University of Arizona and University of Rochester have top-notch optics programs.
