optional essay help!

So I finished writing one of my college essays today, and there is one part where I say that I don’t want to “measure out my life in coffee spoons.”

Can someone please tell me what they think this means? I want to make sure that the admissions committee understands exactly what I’m saying and so far I’ve gotten ppl who completely understand it and others who are just confused.

Thanks!

Well I really have no context to look to here. I really have no idea what that means. And, unless having the context (at least the rest of the sentence) makes it all make sense, I would say that you should probably change that phrase.

Don’t try to be so fancy will metaphors that you become nebulous.
