A relative was recently expelled from a four-year college due to poor grades. I’m trying to help her weigh her options (whatever they may be). Does anyone have any advice? Does she need to earn an associate’s degree before she tries again to get her bachelor’s? Are there any four-year/bachelor’s programs out there that work with students in her position? Thanks for any advice.

She can try to apply to a less selective school or go to a CC to get her studying back on track.

Different schools have different processes, but going to a CC seems to be the most common route. It may not be necessary to actually get an associate’s. Just sticking around long enough to establish a credible academic track record sometimes seems to do the trick.
