What’s up with that? Most of the kids wearing them look creepy. Is this something like that old movie Gotcha?

humans vs. zombies

So, the orange headbands are zombies?

What do the people look like?

Okay, I get it. It’s kind of like when someone wears an ‘Affliction’ Tee Shirt or a Rhino sweatshirt. They’re just putting you on notice…

Orange (or green) on head = zombie
Orange on arm = humans
Pink on head = agents

Humans try to survive until Friday before the final mission. They can utilize nerfs (mod allowed as long as does not leave marks on skin when shot at point blank rangs) or socks (nothing inside). Humans can “stun” zombies, who then, by honor system, are “out of commission” for 15 minutes before “respawning” (or whatever).

Zombies can tag humans, who then become zombies. When I first started playing, tagged humans respawn as zombies at 6am the next day. I think it’s just 15 minutes convert now. Supers (>10 human brains eaten) wear the green bandanas; there is only a certain amount of green bandanas in stock. They are immune to socks or nerfs, but must wait 15 minutes between each “tag”.

Agents show up towards the end of the week; if a human gets to an agent, he can get a ‘medpack,’ which basically allows the human to get tagged and live once. Get out of jail free card, basically. Agents can give out a card every 15 minutes. If a zombie gets to an agent, the agent cannot give out cards for 15 minutes.

Umm, moving vehicles off limits, buildings off limits, no nerf guns can be painted, game in play between dawn and dusk … Organized missions on Wednesday and Friday.

Those are the main rules I can think off. There’s a huge post on the FB page for HvZT about it. It’s pretty fun, especially when you have a bunch of friends also playing. Humans and Zombies both have facebook groups where they do all their tactical/strategical talks.

Note that both students and faculty play. You can sign up in the 2nd(?) week of the beginning of every quarter. It’s great.

Here is an interesting write-up on Prof. Sahr:
[John Sahr: Professor, associate dean, zombie killer | UW Today](John Sahr: Professor, associate dean, zombie killer | UW News)

They ran screaming through the halls of Savery today. #facepalm

Xavi: If you see something like that again, please, PLEASE report them to the overseers. They are NOT supposed to do that and that’s grounds for being banned from the game for all future quarters. Zero tolerance. A few students usually give the 1000-or-so players a bad rep.

Not to rant on freshmen, but usually they go overboard first quarter and kind of go a bit crazy. Then they kind of figure things out and learn that you don’t have to go insane to enjoy playing. The more veteran students try to keep an eye out and we really try to make it a good experience for both players AND the rest of campus, including you.

I’m not playing this quarter (way too much going on to be concerned with my brain being eaten) but if I see anyone being out of line, I definitely report them.
