From an admission officer’s viewpoint, is it better to be one of the leaders (front row, maybe principal) of a mediocre orchestra, or to be just a member of a more prestigious orchestra? I’m a violinist.

I’m thinking probably the more prestigious one assuming you have to audition and it is not easy to get into. It would also look better if you have won some awards also.

Which will be better for your development as a violinist?
