Has anyone here ever heard of something called the Order of Koios? I was actually by the Olin Stacks this past Thursday (6th floor by the Philosophy section) and I heard a couple of kids talking about it. I thought it was some club or something, but it’s not registered under the SAO, so I tried googling it but nothing came up. Could it be a secret society or something? I know Sphinxhead and Quill&Dagger are the secret societies here at Cornell, but maybe this one is new or just more secretive?

P.S. I registered today just to ask this question b/c it’s been bugging me, so I appreciate the help…

So I googled “koios” and supposedly he was the titan of wisdom and intellect in Greek mythology. So i assume Order of Koios would have to do something with intellect. My guess is that they are some form of honor society/secret society, and they must be really prestigious if no one knows anything about them…

yeah i thought it could be a guild or something, but I searched on [GuildPortal Guild Hosting | Search Guilds - Free Guild Sites for World of Warcraft, Aion, Champions Online, Warhammer, Lord of the Rings, Everquest and More.](Loading...) and nothing came up, so I’m almost sure it’s not a guild.

chendrix: that could be one explanation or maybe you’re a member of the Order of Koios and are trying to discredit me, so I won’t expose your esoteric society. regardless, I’m going to get to the bottom of this…

i asked Uncle Ezra so hopefully he/she/it replies soon…

If you look at previous DUE posts, you’ll see that there is a 3rd secret society at Cornell, Der Hexenkreis.

From DUE:
"Our own Der Hexenkreis was the very first chapter of Mortar Board, the national senior honorary society. Until 1975, Mortar Board was a women-only honorary. Now guys are allowed, too.

But what does the original society’s name mean? Good question: hexenkreis is German for a chemistry term, “having a valency of six.” (But “valency” also is a linguistics term.) And “hexenkreis” also translates as “witches circle.” I guess those secret societies really had some secrets."

Yeah I’ve heard about them…Der Hexenkreis hosts the Last Lectures each year…they’re not a secret society though, since their roster is published in SAO.

Seems like that definition would apply to a lot of the Greek-letter organizations on campus as well. A lot of organizations keep at least some of their business private.

There is the Order of the Coif. Could that be it?

Otherwise, I’m interested in why a Harvard sophomore was hanging out in Olin Library and trying to research Cornell student organizations. Don’t you have a Finals Club party to attend?

Order of Coif? that could be it. it’s a law-oriented honor society, so that could be it, since the law school is here, but I’m almost positive I heard Koios, not Coif.

As for the whole Harvard sophomore thing, it’s my way of being a chameleon on the harvard college confidential board.

It could possibly be something associated with the Greek system. Many of the male Greek houses have secret elements to their membership – ritual, traditions, etc. At least Rockledge, Alpha Delt, and Lamda Chi all have pretty clandestine stuff going on.

But you never posted on the Harvard forums. Only Cornell.
