Oregon public wants to go private

[Southern Oregon U. Seeks to Sever Fiscal Ties to State - Chronicle.com](http://chronicle.com/news/article/5164/southern-ore-u-seeks-to-sever-state-fiscal-ties)

Thats the one that was founded by Methodists?
My daughter loves Ashland- she went there in middle school for the Shakespeare festival- wouldn’t look for college though-

In the long run, I wonder if state university will end up being a term that describes where the state donates the land and or buildings - and from there the school is on its own. More and more the schools are self funding anyway…

Hmmm, interesting. My niece will be starting there as a freshman next week. Oregon public colleges are hurting financially, that’s for sure. I’m envious when I hear of all the wonderful scholarships and programs offered by other states’ public universities. We just aren’t up to par. My son didn’t want to stay in-state for college, and I can’t really blame him. So we’re paying out-of-state tuition for him to attend another state’s public flagship.

My first thought reading the thread title was that some Portland public HS wanted to be able to compete with Jesuit at sports.

Since I am down in CA perhaps I misunderstood my friend - but I thought I heard Lake Oswego beat Jesuit in football AGAIN this week…

That is true Squalum. There was much rejoicing…

Willamette U was founded by Methodists–not sure about So. Oregon…
