I was completing an application tonight, and it had the “something interesting” section too. I thought I’d share…

First, [take a look at this picture](<a href=“Svensk forskning för hållbar tillväxt| RISE”>www.sics.se/~piak/yoga/yantra/jpg/Shree.jpg).

The intricate pattern you saw is the Shree Yantra (श्री यंत्र in Hindi). It is the most revered of the countless yantras ancient geometrical and numerical patterns from Hindu esotericism. The Shree Yantra is believed to be the fore-bringer of prosperity and happiness to the family.

However, from a scientific point of view, the Shree yantra is believed to be one of the most complicated geometrical patterns in the world. A large number of mathematical interpretations have stemmed from the study of the Shree yantra alone; among them is a link to the Pyramids; e.g. two of the main triangles in the Shree yantra have sides in the ratio phi (golden ratio).

But the most bizarre thing related to the Shree yantra surfaced in 1990. In August 1990, A giant 13-mile wide Shree yantra appeared from nowhere on a dried lakes bed in Oregon, USA!! No conclusive evidence has ever been found about it being man-made or otherwise.

Or search for “Shree yantra” on google for general info and “Shree yantra Oregon” for this specific freak incident.
