I was in a show locally about 2 months ago and we just recently found out that we were accepted to NYMF to perform twice. This is an AMAZING opportunity and will expose to many amazing people. But, the performances are the first weekend that I am at college. I am going to school out in Chicago so I would have to fly back that Friday night and then fly back out to Chicago that monday. Do you think NYMF is worth missing my first weekend of college? I mean that is the time when everyone starts to bond and make friends but I feel like I would be missing out on a huge theatrical opportunity. What do you guys think?

Have you asked the college what they are scheduling for the time you’d be missing? Some schools feel VERY strongly about students being there for “bonding” and getting settled; some are much more open-ended in scheduling for the first few days. Perhaps someone in your program might let you know what your “trade-offs” would be and how your absence would be perceived?..
