Orientation Frat Party and Greek Life

@Pikidikitiki I get the feeling that you might feel you’re being unfairly labeled, so you might have rushed through my post. My post said “not saying everyone in frats are lowlifes”, I don’t consider all frats lowlifes, I’ve got some friends joining frats, so I don’t hold that as a universal view. Next you said I used you as an example to prove the above point(frats are lowlifes) that I didn’t even make in the first place, don’t think that’s true either. I do, however, acknowledge that I don’t know you, and I assumed one thing some guy in my wing said about you was true, honest mistake, I apologize for that.

I think you might also disagree with when I said frats had the greatest amount/concentration of jerks, and I obviously committed the mistake of posting something on the internet where I assumed that the context in my head was visible to all on my post. I think Frats aren’t a normal “group” per se as they’re far larger than other groups. Like when we say some other school group, we think of one single group, like Ut robotics. Whereas Frats are actually comprised of numerous chapters I believe, and each of them are different and independent of the other, but we still view them as one. However, when something happens in one, like the SAE Oklahoma chant, it gets attributed to frats as a whole. Another thing is that those who are immature and view the entertainment media of frats as fact, are more likely to join frats instead of some other community service or major related club. So I guess what I’m trying to say is, due to the sheer size of Frats, the media portrayal, and the way they’re grouped, you’ll get a lot of knuckle heads, like the guys who where with OP, but you’ll also get chill guys like some of my friends and hopefully you(Can’t say for sure, cuz I don’t know you haha).

I didn’t mean to offend you or criticize Frats, just wanted to let the OP know, that frats, mainly due to size and being the only attractive group for knuckleheads, will have more lowlifes then other groups. So if the OP wanted to avoid those kinds of people as much as possible, I suggested stay away from Greek life and get her interaction from major related clubs. Again, I apologize for assuming what some guy in my wing said as true, for if You felt I unfairly labeled you, and for if I had managed to offend you with my lack of context in my other post. As far as you being memorable in Ties of Texas, I thought the whole thing was memorable, a lot less cliched than I thought it’d be(but still sorta cliche), anyways, sorry again and best of luck to you at UT, Hook’em.

I agree completely with what @Fuffy24 said in his last comment. There are good and bad in every group, but I feel like frats tend to attract a bit more of the knuckleheads, at least from my experience. The sorority girls I talked to seemed nice enough, though! If it makes y’all feel any better, I think ChemE attracts quite a few pretentious, arrogant pieces of poop, haha (maybe me included).

That comment actually reminds me I sort of skipped Ties of Texas to try to talk to my advisor about registration and she wasn’t there :’( Most of the sessions were rained out at my orientation so I had little leeway in my schedule:/ Future orientationees, a word of advise not to skip Ties of Texas or whatever similar program they have. I heard lots of great things about it and regret missing it.

Greeks and non-Greeks alike, we’re all still together at one of the best universities, haha. Maybe we’ll see each around (not that we’d know who we’re seeing, haha). Hook 'em \m/
