orientation question

What is a “spirit box” ? When signing up for orientation the option is there to buy one with a t-shirt. Is this something you will need during orientation?

No, it’s optional. My s didn’t get one.
https://sait.usc.edu/ca/spiritbox/shirt.html

This year’s came with a t-shirt, hand towel, some coupons and some brochures. You’re really just paying for the t-shirt.

If you ask me, orientation itself is optional. The only benefit is that you get to sign up for classes. From a practical standpoint it is two days of pure fluff. However, if finances are not a concern it is a nice way to spend some time with your kid before he/she sails off into the sunset.

Do these come in the mail or do you get them when you go to USC orientation?

I got the shirt at orientation but the box itself during welcome week.

FYI, the t-shirt this year was a limited design only available to incoming students, so when you see someone wearing the shirt on campus, you kinda know they’re a freshman. It’s fairly cool in the beginning of the year because freshmen are particularly friendly to other frosh. And I thought it was a cool design. Absolutely not necessary, though.
