orientation sign up

go2007, don’t worry. you probably figured it out by now by it’s just a link and you sign in with your ucla id. they ask you to put in info like the start date (if you haven’t finished) or your completetion date, name of your physician, clinic and so on. don’t worry, my mom freaked out and went to the clinic to ask for proof but you just enter the stuff online. but it takes a while so if you haven’t gotten it done, i would start like ASAP.

ok, myucla isnt working!!!

hey everyone
Can I actually register before my orientation session?
i am a transfer and i enrolled in the last session ( due to family vacation)
I am pretty sure what class should I take (Pre Business Econ)

No- there’s a lock on your enrollment capabilities that isn’t lifted until the appropriate time during your orientation session

Am i still able to enroll in the classes that i want to take?

So what if I don’t register at orientation? Will I able to enroll any time after my orientation?

I have the same question actually.

What happens if you sign up for an orientation session but don’t attend? Are you still able to enroll in your classes on that day?

Yes, you will be able to sign up for classes at the designated time. This in fact, will give you a slight advantage.

Assuming the enrollment times unlock at the same time, you beat out the “lottery” that the OCs run, to set an order for his/her students to enroll.

However, this means you are spending $300 or however much orientation costs just so you can have a slight advantage in enrollment time.

If English Composition 3 with a particular professor is a class you plan to take, keep in mind that it fills up very fast. My first two choices were filled up (20 each class) just because I was 7th of 10 to pick my classes out of my group. By this time, it was 10:13, while enrollment started at 10:00.

WOW!!! i thought i got some choices with my orientation session, i guess im already gettin leftovers with session 104, huh?

lol I signed up after BoelterHall and ended up with an 8 am engcomp 3 class

in response to peachy, you can enroll in classes any time after your orientation

Is it worth going to an early orientaton session, even as an engineering student? People have told me that I’ll have classes early in the morning no matter what…

Great. So it’s OK if I leave a little early and I can just enroll by myself later online? The 7:30pm - Registration and Enrollment presentation - can I skip this? do they just tell you how to enroll during this?

Yes it is.

People’s concerns are not primarily the morning/afternoon time preference, but the class gaps. You might end up with 2 hour gaps between each class if you are unfortunate.

Yes, you may leave anytime you want (as long as you paid). You may make changes online after too, but this just means 400+ students from your year enrolled already before you did.

I still don’t understand… when does the enrollment unlock during a particular orientation? Is it on the first day or the second day and what time does it occur? When during orientation do you actually get to enroll?

You enroll on the third day of orientation. Your OC will usually have a sort of “lottery” where you draw numbers out of a hat to determine the order in which the people in your group will enroll.

AP scores is NOT a problem for session 101 (and btw, do not call in about your AP scores because they’ll be up on myUCLA, which means UCLA got them), but it’s probably full by now anyway from what I gather.

So enrollment is “unlocked” at 8 PM (according to the schedule) for that orientation session and will remain so, even if you’re not present for this lottery?

Sorry if I keep asking questions, I just want to be 100% sure and figure out my plans. If I can just register later by myself then I’d like to leave early and catch a 9 PM flight back home instead of spending some $ on staying overnight. Thanks to everyone.

I don’t think enrollment time is unlocked at orientation in the evening. It is at a time when all the students gather in the room of the OC, which traditionally is in the morning. (I believe at 9 or 10AM).

The OC only has at most 2 computers, so a lottery is used to determine the order of the laptop usage.

wait so what if i don’t bother signing up for orientation at all? do i not get to enroll until after EVVERRRRYONNNE else who does attend?

basically, is the $365 price tag of orientation worth the better pickings of a quarter’s classes? enrollment is the only reason I would bother attending; those workshops and ish seem rather eh otherwise.

how much would i have to suffer if I choose not to attend?

Yeah it definitely is not unlocked during the evening (otherwise everyone would flock to some kind of computer at that time, and attendance for the final day of orientation may not be so high). Its unlocked at the time your orientation counselor first allows students to register since he/she begins sign-up during the earliest available time possible for students of that session
