So i just realized i have a problem. I’m transfering from a community college to a 4 year school and my college graduation for the school i go to now (which im leaving) is on friday. but my problem is so is my transfer preview day for the school i am going to in the fall. Its the day were we learn about everything we have to do to prepare for the fall and pre register for classes. So i have no idea what i should do! College graduation with all my friends or pre orientation for school i the fall?

I would do orientation, unless it’s really important for you to graduate with your friends. The orientation sounds like it’s full of necessary information.

IMO orientation is a waste of time…especially since you’ve already been in college. Usually registration is self-explanatory and/or you can find a friend who’s been there already to help you, and “preparing for the fall” is usually the basic stuff you can find in the handbook. I’d go to the graduation.

When orientation involves pre-registration, it becomes a lot more important. When will you be able to register if you don’t go? Will you risk be locked out of classes if you don’t? The rest of orientation often doesn’t matter much except for being able to register in classes as soon as possible before they’re all filled.

I was a mid-year transfer so graduation wasn’t an issue. However, I had to leave my on campus job a day early to attend orientation (a job I greatly loved and I could have used the additional pay). But if I didn’t go, I would not have been able to register for another week. I was able to get permission codes for spots in classes that had been held back specifically for students attending orientation. If I was not there to get mine, I would have been thrown in with the pack when they released them for open season and risked not getting into classes I needed.

As a transfer, getting your classes lined up properly from the beginning can be crucial. But only you can decide if this is enough of an importance over graduation or if graduation is more important.

graduation only comes once. orientation is important, but some information you will already know. are there no other orientation dates?
