On the emory website it says that there are some events for parents throughout orientation. They are supposed to obtain their own place to stay overnight, right? In like the emory convention center or emory inn?

The can stay there if they want to, but the Emory conference center will be expensive (though very, very, nice). They can stay elsewhere in the Atlanta/Decatur area (I’d imagine there are some cheaper places maybe on N. Druid Hills Rd, and other places). Emory Inn is nowhere near as nice, but it is certainly cheaper than the Conference Center. I guess if your parents don’t have a budget they can certainly stay at the Conference Center though, which would be far more convenient.

As an Emory Parent, I will add to bernier12’s comments. The move-in day has a number of parent-oriented sessions (I strongly recommend Dr. Duke’s session). These are separate from your orientation. Once you are moved in (generally takes the entire morning), a quick lunch and then you are off to your orientation sessions and parents off theirs. I suggest having dinner with your folks but by about 8:30 or 9pm you will have a required dorm orientation session. There is a dessert reception for parents at that time. Frankly, that is about it for the parents. There are a few things the next day for parents but you will be off and running into orientation. Your parents ought to really think about heading back the next day and NOT coming back to campus except maybe to good bye.

Yeah, that actually sounds about right. Such a decision will also probably save them money (especially if they stay somewhere like the conference center).

oh okay, thanks for the information!
