Orthognathic surgery?

Hi there, parents! If there are any of you whose kids have had orthognathic surgery (or if there are any specialists in the subject), perhaps you can give me some advice.

I think I was supposed to have my wisdom teeth out months ago, but I just had them extracted yesterday. Given four months for the bone to fill in, I should be able to have the surgery in early August at the soonest, right? I’m leaving for college in September, and frosh orientation is somewhere around Sept. 9.

Also, I really want to do Outdoor Action, but something tells me it’s not an exceedingly good idea. Would doing Community Action be okay (week of community service with a group of students)?

Or is it better to do neither Outdoor nor Community Action and arrive just in time for frosh orientation, giving myself six weeks at home instead of four and a half? And what is the best way to continue post-op treatment? My orthodontist will help me find someone near my university to continue the orthodontic treatment. In that case, should I simply arrive at school earlier to consult with the new orthodontist?

Thanks for any input you can give me!

I’m bumping this up for the OP. I know there are a couple of posters whose children had similar surgery in the past year, but I don’t want to name or speak for them, but maybe a bump will allow them to catch this thread.
