Wondering if anybody has a favorite insole insert for functionally flat feet! A quick internet search produced lots of options. I’d like to put something inside ballet flats, espadrilles, etc. I got a pair from my podiatrist but they’re too bulky for dress shoes…The older I get, the flatter my feet become. A bit of support pampers my feet!

It is possible that your feet are tellkng you that it is time to look for “flats” that have some arch support and a teeny heel for proper foot position. Completely flat shoes are awfully bad for the feet (some Ortho docs think they are just as bad as high heels) - unless you intend to run in them, but that’s another diacusaion. Here are some brands that make excellent “flats”: Paul Green, Taryn Rose, Born, Ecco, etc.

You can always try superfeet insoles at Nordstrom and return if you do not like them.

I’m curious about this. I wear prescription orthotics, and I just wear nike running shoes as much as possible since that’s all they fit in. I don’t worry about going without them to wear flats or heels out to dinner or something since I am only walking back and forth to the car, but I can’t wear cute shoes for a stroll downtown-- I have collapsing arches and it rolls my knees and screws up my whole lower body. My doctor gave me the impression there are thinner ones they can get that work in dress shoes, but it wasn’t practical at the time for me to go that route so I didn’t even look into them. I’m not sure what his idea of “dress shoes” was.

check out what this podiatrist says on PAGE 3 "… My favorite brand of non-custom orthotic for high heels is the Superfeet® Women’s ¾ High Heel device (Superfeet). I dispense these orthotics from my office but they are also available at Nordstrom.

I talked to my local shoe repair shop. They stock several products and ended up glueing arch supports in several pairs of my sandals. I have a high arch, so they were positioned perfectly, plus they aren’t visible when I’m wearing the sandals.

I needed this to read the article I posted earlier…

I wear Superfeet and love them! Different colors for different types of activities /shoes. I wear the green for heavy walking, the light blue for every day and the wool lined for winter. I know they make a thinner one for ladies dress shoes - might be a bright pink color and there also might be a 3/4 sole to wear with heels. Look on the Superfeet website for a full overview.

I also wear a 3/4 insole by TACCO and my all time fav for ballet flats or driving mods is an adhesive (works great) arch support (just the part that goes under your arch) also by TACCO. I wouldn’t go larger than a small.

Another person who likes super feet insoles.

There is a blog called barkingdogshoes. It’s a great resource for those problem feet. Anyways she recently had a post on flats for people who need arch support.

This will sound like a dumb question but how do you know if you need arch support? Lately my feet ache when I get out of bed in the morning and after I have been sitting for a while and get up to walk. Not in one place really, but all over my feet. When I put weight on them the bones complain. I have a low arch but not really flat feet and I do have a bunion on my left foot.
I am on my feet all day and wonder if I need to go to podiatrist.

Do you rotate your shoes? I find that makes a big difference.
Standing is more tiring than walking for me.
I use superfeet and sofsole insoles for high arches.
They also make a little nubby ball about the size of a ping pong ball that is really good to improve circulation.

EPTR, if you have bunions I think you should see a podiatrist. Especially since your feet are aching. I have minor bunions on both feet and a collapsing arch, and where my feet hurt the most is across the top on the inside-- near the bunions. But if I walk around in flat shoes for too long my whole foot feels fatigued an achey.

The pain in my feet is actually usually pretty minor unless I am exercising strenuously on a regular basis, what is worse for me is knee pain. The orthotics take some of the pressure off my knees that is caused by the arch rolling flat when I step.

Superfeet.

In the men’s version, I wear the ORANGE for shoes with removable insoles like athletic shoes, hiking boots, etc. I use the thinner BLUE version for dress shoes that don’t have removable insoles.

I think custom orthotics are one of the great scams. And, yes, I have had them in the past.

I would also recommend SuperFeet. They saved my life when I had Plantar Fasciitis a few years ago.

Try shoes with good arch support and you won’t need orthotics as much …… try ECCO, LLBean boots and slippers. I just use the orthotics in running shoes.

Superfeet were not especially comfortable for me, but maybe I need to try something besides the green ones. These however, were and are incredible. http://www.amazon.com/Pedag-Semi-Rigid-Orthotic-Metatarsal-Womens/dp/B001E6U07M/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1399428711&sr=8-2&keywords=pedag Best of all, they fit well in many pairs of shoes. I have orthotics, which feel just too hard for my overworked feet.

I also have flat feet. Have not tried superfeet (but I think I will), but I just wanted to mention a physical therapist recommended spenco inserts for me. I forget the exact name, but they are clearly intended for athletic use. It’s mostly cushioning, but also some arch support. They are bulky though, due to the cushioning, so I am not sure if they would work in flats. I don’t buy shoes without at least some cushioning, arch support, and means of staying put on a very flat foot, so I don’t own any flats. I use the inserts in sneakers and boots. and I think they do help.

These are lined with fine merino wool and make any dress boots feel like sheepskin slippers:

What one needs for dress shoes is not the full lengths inserts but THESE:

They can go into peep-toe pumps.
