Osama Bin Laden is dead?

I think the soldiers who went into Pakistan aren’t the kind of soldiers who ever get credit for anything they do. They just do it. Nobody knows who they are.

reesespieces-- I always feel your generation was effected by 9/11 more heavily than any other, and that it changed you guys in ways we don’t understand.

Thank all the troops that killed the man who stole apart of my life from me. I feel unleashed from a cycle of pure pain. God bless america and our spirit and persistence that seperate us from many other countries in the world

He forgot to turn off Location Services in his iphone.

Sorry, I couldn’t resist.

This wasn’t the work of a single president but rather, the work of a large number of individuals including 2 presidents although it would have been more if it came to that. That’s something the terrorists need to understand - in this country they’re not up against a single dictator or personality as they might be familiar with given their own background - they’re up against an entire country that’s largely united in this area and enduring through all of the personalities who may happen to be president, CIA chief, military chiefs, etc.

Congratulations to all of the Americans, including many whose names we’ll never know, and allies who took part in this achievement. There’s more work to do and the danger isn’t over but this was nevertheless an achievement.

Very well said, ucsducladad.

They must have been Special Forces, the troops that finally popped him. This makes me very happy. I’m sure Al Qaeda had someone lined up to take the place of that vermin the moment he bought his one way ticket to hell. But, at least tonight, there’s one less. Hurray!:D

Wow! I hope this is a sign of a more effective military effort generally- that could be EXCELLENT news. I also hope that the military and DOD and CIA have identified the next leaders of Al-Quaeda, the Taliban , and all the cells that are proliferating.
God bless you, soldiers. We want you home, and are so grateful for the sacrifices you and your families all have made.

Yes, absolutely. I feel exactly the same way. WE said we would get him and we did. Bush said it first of course, and Obama said we would continue the pursuit…in this we are united.

For all those who perished in the attack on 9-11, and in the overseas combat that followed in retaliation, this is what was promised and what needed to happen. Hurrah.

Turns out they were lying: [‘Nuclear hellstorm’ if bin Laden is caught or killed: Al-Qaida](<a href=“'Nuclear hellstorm' if bin Laden is caught or killed: Al-Qaida”>'Nuclear hellstorm' if bin Laden is caught or killed: Al-Qaida)

Wow, he’s been dead a week, and they’ve been able to keep that info under their hats the whole time, until DNA confirmed his identity? Very impressive…

According to what source? Obama said “today.”

The United States has the capacity to do it and did it. A job well done!

They are partying at ground zero right now! Wish I could be there with them.

I believe the President said he received information a week ago that was of the quality that he could proceed. Then the firefight and taking down of Osama happened today.

I think all this talk about exactly when this happened will need to be confirmed. Why would Obama come out on a late Sunday night to make this announcement?

This has always weighed heavily on New Yorkers; the celebrations have barely begun. I think everyone wants to be there tonight.

Apparently, rumors on Arab TV reported he was killed a week ago, repeated upthread. Not true - it happened today.

MSNBC reporting “his body will be dealt with in accordance with Islamic law.”

I have to say that I don’t really understand the partying. I understand the necessity, but to say it’s a good thing–a thing worth celebrating–is something else. Osama bin Laden’s death just seems to me a sad reminder of how much violence there is in the world and how far we are from peace.

I think that the celebrations are about what this symbolizes; some closure, a possible end in sight.

The mansion that was bombed is still on fire so it didn’t happen a week ago. Unless this is a Faked moon landing sitch.
