Oscars 2015

There is a HUGE difference between understanding our children have sex and even hoping they have a fulfilling sex life and seeing them SIMULATE it in living color on a movie screen. It’s not a hangup, it’s not remotely “Victorian.”

Conversely, would you want to see your parents simulating sex in a movie, nudity included? I doubt it.

What do you mean Nrdsb4, “even” hoping our adult children have a fulfilling sex life. Would it be reasonable to hope for the opposite?

Anyway, again, the part about not wanting to see it didn’t strike me as strange at the time, it was the total lack of support or even a kind word. Just weird.

lol. Melanie Griffith can correctly be accused of many things but having a Victorian attitude would not be among them. lol.

ETA - She very nicely said she knew Dakota was a great actress and did not need to see the film.

@Snowdog, no, you have misinterpreted. It’s a response to your statement:

I think most parents not only have no trouble understanding that their kids have sex; not only that I would bet most even hope the best for them in that regard, though I suspect many parents don’t really go that far in their thinking one way or the other.

However, understanding your kids have sex, hoping that that part of their life is fulfilled as other parts does not mean that parents should or would desire to see their kids simulate sex in a movie. Discomfort with seeing their kids simulate sex does NOT imply that they “are expected not to want to understand that our adult children have sex”, nor does it imply a “Victorian” state of mind.

I agree. She’s being honest that she’s proud of her daughter but not exactly comfortable with seeing her in that movie. I’m betting that the majority of parents would feel similar conflicting emotions.

Based on Dakota’s reaction in that clip, they have had many conversations about this and they are probably both sick to death of being asked this same question and being expected to explain this over and over. I imagine they have had plenty of conversations privately where there has been plenty of kind words between the two of them about it.

Well, as parents we can all understand Melanie’s discomfort with the onscreen “romance” stuff, but Melanie has been in the business for ages and should have steeled herself. I mean, didn’t Melanie toss away her top in ‘Something Wild?’ And she had the notorious boob job during the filming of ‘Bonfire of the Vanities.’ Finally, we’re talking about the daughter and granddaughter of Tippi Hendren. Remember the Tippi Hendren-Alfred Hitchcock scandal?

By the way, what does daddy Sonny Crockett have to say about it?

Good Point about Dakota bringing Melanie as her date! The black dress did not cover all…“the girls” were putting on quite a show compared to Dakota’s “non girls”. I’m more like Dakota

Dakota would not have gotten this particular part if she had Melanie-like girls. I’m more like Dakota, too. But, that is a choice and for Melanie I still thought they were covered up pretty well. It’s Melanie Griffith.

I just googled some picture and it looks like Tippi and Melanie might have the same plastic surgeon. He maintained a family resemblance! One that does not occur in nature but a resemblance nonetheless . . .

I watched the interview again. All I could think of was how much Melanie looked like she had the same plastic surgeon as Joan Rivers, she resembled her so much. It just looks so unnatural, and I’m all for plastic surgery.

I thought the Melanie Griffith’s black dress was fine. The spat was nothing. I’m more impressed with Emma Stone exposing her underwear. What idiot designer thought the slit in her dress needed to go up so high?

Oh, no doubt, Melanie has been in some racy movies. Body Double is probably the most graphic that I remember.

Apparently on Fashion Police before the Oscars, Giuliana Rancic felt the need to tell Zendaya(Disney Star, DWTS runner up) "“I feel like she smells like patchouli oil. Or weed. Maybe weed?” in regards to her choice of hair style.
Sigh…just because you have the mic, doesnt mean you should always use it. Zendaya is a beautiful young lady and it is sad, that it has come to this. Her response to Rancic, was thoughtful and mature. Rancic’s apology was phony as hell.

I saw that show. Giuliana also said “EFF YOU, Oscars” and did the double bird straight to the camera over the fact that Joan Rivers was omitted from the In Memoriam segment of the Academy Awards show.

Usually it is Kathy Griffin who goes a little overboard. And before her, Joan Rivers occasionally said some fairly offensive things as well imo.

There is so much class. Everywhere we look.

I saw that, too, partyof5. That young woman handled it with eloquence and maturity. Bravo to her. Rancic should be ashamed of herself.

As for the mom/daughter ‘spat’, geez, that was much ado about nothing. What was probably more annoying than anything her mom said was Lara Spencer introducing them as Melanie Griffith and “her little girl”. What 25 year old who is on the red carpet wants to hear that?

Just re-watched Lady Gaga’s performance. I thought she did a good job, with the exception of the final note.

Having not been exposed to much of her work aside from her dance club stuff, I thought it showed surprising versatility. Could someone else have done it better? No doubt. But they asked her, and I think she rose to the occasion very well.

Yes. She took the task very seriously and prepared for it. I like her.

I am betting she asked them.

Why would you think that Cosmicfish??
