Oscars 2017

There was an article in the LA Times a few days ago about the ‘red carpet’. What was shocking is that it is THROWN AWAY after one use! They want no one taking clippings to duplicate the color, as though this were a state secret or something. They should donate it to Habitat for Humanity or some other charity that could use lightly used carpet.

and for your Oscar watching pleasure…

So sorry to read the news about Bill Paxton. He was an excellent actor. I loved him in Apollo 13 and A Simple Plan, among many other things. He had a new series (Training Day) come out recently. Just too sad.

He was much too young.

Watching the Red Carpet and Sunny Pawar is beyond adorable.

I’m watching too. So far some of the dresses are hideous - but I’m not paying close attention as I’m preparing dinner at the same time.

I’m probably going to regret this but I don’t plan to watch tonight - possibly the first year ever.

I have other stuff needs must get done.

I’m watching the Red Carpet on E! Channel. I know a lot of people don’t care for Ryan Seacrest, but he does a really good job at these types of events. He makes something that is probably really difficult look very easy.

Watching on ABC… Trudy Styler (Stling’s wife) looks good – elegant and age appropriate and juuust edgy enough… Isabelle Huppert - pretty, but with her figure she can pull off more interesting looks, I think. This seemed safe.

@Nrdsb4 We’re watching Ryan Seacrest as well. I agree that he does a good job. He’s good at the chit chat while being respectful and not silly. Can’t say I care for all the commentators on E! though.

I’ve been half watching while online and getting dinner ready but so far some of my favs are Jessica Beil and Emma Stone. Both gold.

I think Sting himself looked good, too, @katliamom.

That was a terrible thing to do do Halle Berry… her stylist ought to be shamed in public

^i agree. It looks like she is wearing a mop on her head!

I’m disappointed in the styles/look in general so far . Waiting for that aah, that’s beautiful moment! Some look nicer than others though. I think Emma Stone and Nicole Kidman look very nice.

Agree about the sad news about Bill Paxton. I’ve always liked him.

Think Viola Davis looks terrific!

I’ve been outvoted; my menfolk refuse to watch. H points out that I haven’t seen any of the movies anyway, which is true. I haven’t seen a movie in three years since my friend sold his interest in a local theater and moved away. I hadn’t paid to see a movie in 20 years and just can’t wrap my head around doing so now, when I have kids in college.

S17 thought Moana was amazing and was shocked by how much he enjoyed it. He said it should win for best music…

The fashion commentator on ABC just said her favorites so far are Nicole Kidman and Emma Stone. That cracked me up as that was my thought too and I have little to no fashion sense!

I think all the Hidden Figures gals are looking fantastic. My favorite red carpet dress has been the HF actress in the outrageous black dress…loved it! Lots of ugly ones. Hated Scarlett Johansson dress and hair. Nicole Kidman dress was very pretty, but her hair color and red lipstick just ruined it.

Dakota Johnson…what the heck? The dress, the hair…get this girl some help.

I think Nicole’s dress is great, fits her figure, but I don’t think the color works on her. Hair, skin tone, dress - too monochrome.

I agree, doschicos – the dress washes her out – or she washes it out, whichever. OTOH, Charleze Theron always looks great… though weird hairstyle – very coiffed in the front and a simple pony tail in the back. Not into it. It’s like they gave up by the time they got to the back of her head.

I didn’t like Charlize’s dress. Made her shoulders look soon wide. I never get Jessica Biel’s looks. He should dump her and come to me.

Taraji P. Henson, Nicole Kidman, Emma Stone my favorites thus far. Like Viola Davis. Janelle Monae … I don’t know. I liked it and didn’t.
