Oscars 2019

My “art film” theater does have the nice seats…but it’s a relatively new theater, not an old Art Deco style building.

I watched Bohemian Rhapsody last night, and tonight, The Wife.

Bohemian Rhapsody was lots of fun, and Rami Malek did a wonderful job.

But GLENN CLOSE, my GOD. What a powerful performance. Her facial expressions when her husband is on stage being praised for “his” work, while Christian Slater is shown in the background observing…brilliance. Loved the movie and Glenn’s performance above all. Jonathan Pryce of course gave a fantastic performance as well, but his character was so despicable, it was hard to feel good about it, which is certainly a testament to his masterful acting.

It’s tonight already! I don’t know how many surprises there will be, but I’d like to see Spike Lee win for directing and BlacKKKlansman for Best Picture. Alfonso Cuaron won the Directors Guild award a few weeks ago, and that award is considered highly predictive of the Oscar winner - so it will be a surprise if Lee wins. I thought both films were excellent.

I am looking forward to the opening number with Adam Lambert and Queen. I also am wondering if the rumors that Whoopi Goldberg may be a surprise host are true. She has been gone from The View for more than a week with what they say is pneumonia, leading to speculation if she was really preparing for the Oscars.

I’m curious about which film wins in the Live Short Film category? Sweet touching film that made everyone cry, or one of the very distressing nightmare-inducing films?

I’d like to see Glenn Close win best actress.

I hope there are a lot of beautiful dresses and that mens wear continues to trend towards more fun options.

I enjoy seeing the red carpet fashions almost as much as the award show. I’ve barely seen any of the movies this year so look forward to a year full of movie rentals from the library, or Netflix/Amazon Prime showings.

I’m not a fan of Billy Porters velvet ‘tuxedo ballgown.’

I’ve only seen Bohemian Rhapsody and A Star is Born for movies with many noms. Last weekend we saw The Wife and both found it overrrated. And I’ve loved Glenn since World According to Garp and Dangerous Liaisons. So many years the predicted winners come through, I’d love an upset, Bradley Cooper! Rami was excellent too though.

When I first saw it online, I thought it was possibly from The Onion. It’s certainly unique! I’m open to everyone having fun with their attire, which seems to be the case for the tuxedo gown.

@sly123 I agree with you regarding recent Best Picture winners. I’ve only seen Argo, Birdman and Spotlight in the past ten years. Argo and Spotlight were very good but never understood Birdman raves. We have Netflix so I could have watched Roma by now.

Glenn Close’s “dress” weighs 42 pounds. I can’t even bench press that much weight.

That’s a lot of dress! (Glenn Close)

So far, my favorites (dresses) are Helen Mirren & Michelle Yeoh.

The Academy finally recognizes that the Grammys put on the best awards shows.

Well, I’m energized! (As is the audience, clearly.)

Emma Stone and Jennifer Lopez have two of my favorite dresses so far. I was cooking during the the red carpet show and haven’t seen everyone.

What on earth is Rachel Weisz wearing?

I love musical performances, so I’m happy!

I was hoping Lady Gaga would wear something crazy.

She looks beautiful and classic old time Hollywood. So disappointing, lol.

Helen Mirren looks great! I would love to see Lady Gaga win but Glenn Close seems to have a lock on that (liked The Wife but also feel it may be a little overrated). Thought Bradley Cooper was great too but he has the misfortune of going against another great performance of a musician this year.

So far this is so boring, I’m looking forward to the In Memorium segment. :))
