I have just recieved my financial aid award packet and besides the very low amount of financial aid I recieved, I was also confused by one award called the “OSFA Non-Resid Tuition Waiver”. It only gives me about $5,038/year (or 2,519/semester). Does anyone know what this is? I am an out-of-stater, but why would I be considered for a tuition waiver?

OSFA simply stands for Office of Student Financial Aid, UIUC’s financial aid department. UIUC, as part of its aid to out-state-residents, sometimes includes a whole or partial waiver of the out of state tuition cost that is over and above in-state tuition. It is just another way of giving a grant that is not a federally funded Pell grant.
