I am deciding between Rose Hulman and the honors program at OSU. While I have been able to read about both schools, supposedly the honors program is very different than the standard OSU. A few people have said that they treat the honors students “like gold,” but I don’t know how much to believe that. I am definitely going into engineering and Rose is rated #1 non-doctoral engineering in the country by U.S. News. Again I don’t know how much to trust rankings. Does anyone have any advice about choosing between these schools?

You have two good choices. I think it should come down to some different factors besides engineering ranking. Engineering employers don’t really care about ranking and pay pretty much any entry level engineer the same.

A couple things to consider:

How do the costs compare? If Rose-Hulman is much more expensive, you will not recuperate the investment over tOSU Honors…as I said, engineers get paid pretty much the same no matter what program they attend.

Look at environment. Rose-Hulman is a smaller, technical university. Ohio State is a very large public university. You won’t go wrong with either, but choose for the environment you would prefer…only you can make that decision.

I would consider the costs as well.

Apart from that, I would think that Rose-Hulman offers much more excellent engineering education. Terre Haute isn’t exactly an enticing location, though…

Rose Hulman for the reasons below:

1) Support, this school is known for getting graduation rates in engineering and the profs are extremely supportive too
2) The Career Department is great
3) Small Classes

If you like the smaller campus its wonderful. Terre Haute is not the best but there are a lot of things on campus plus there are other schools there too. Indiana State so lots of things going on.

I know about 8 students that go there and everyone LOVE it. They are very well respected in engineering. Ranked

Personally, I don’t think there’s really a question involved here unless you’re hung up on the location of OSU or the price of Rose-Hulman. If you’re absolutely positive that you’ll be an engineer, it doesn’t seem like there’s any place better to receive your education than RHIT. If price, however, is a big concern and Rose hasn’t offered a lot of aid–or if Terre Haute, which is not exactly the best town in the world, is not a place you could fathom living–that’s another thing (however, if you’re basically guaranteed a job after graduation, given Rose’s placement rate, the price might be worth it).

Bottom line, I’d personally say Rose. People who go there seem to love it, and the education seems to back up the USNWR ranking, from what I can understand.
