OSU vs PSU

Which is tougher to get into?

With these stats, which do you think I have a better shot at.

GPA 3.24
SAT- 1710 (620M, 520CR, 570W) Highest Single- 1650
ACT- 25 (27M, 27E, 26W, 22R, 23S)
OOS

AROTC and NROTC Hopeful

Why is your GPA higher for tOSU than PSU?

I think both will be difficult.

I don’t know about Penn State, but I’d guess your chance at an Ohio State admit is about 10 to 15%.

Penn State is a little easier to get into, but not by much

When my D applied to Penn State (fall 2009), it was very tough to get into. With OSU’s standards raising, they may just be about equal.

Tbh, if this makes sense, my guidance counselor told me my unweighted is 33.24 since I didn’t take any honors up until Senior year, but after calculating it, It came out to about a 3, so I never know which one to put. I probably put that one up unconsciously.

I am not sure but those scores are low for the main campuses. Are you out of state for both?

Yes, im from NJ.

Also, I am applying into the NROTC for the scholarship if it means anything.

I think your stats are a little low for both schools, especially since you’re out of state. But if you really want one as a reach school, I think you have a slightly better shot at PSU just because they’d be likely to defer you to a branch campus so that you can increase your stats and apply to main campus your sophomore year.

I believe if you do two years at a PSU branch campus, you automatically get into the main campus. But apply to both schools . . . you never know.

Good luck!

editor/aspire:

I know about the 2+2, i was accepted into a branch campus, but I can’t use a Naval ROTC scholarship at branch campuses, nor can I participate in the program, so I can’t even go to a branch campus

Why would you want to go to PSU

^Hahaha

Cooper, can you only join the NROTC as a freshman? I thought you could join that any year you wanted in school, but if you need the scholarship money now then I can see your issue.

Penn State is a great school but I would say Ohio State University- Columbus.

aspire2011-

You can join the NROTC whenever, but if you get a four year scholarship, you might as well use it for all four years, and not defer it for 2 years.

Plus, I want to spend my 4 years at the same school, preferably a big school, where I can do the NROTC all 4 years.

Also, if I don’t get the scholarship, it is easier to re-apply and get a 3 year if you have connections at a battalion from doing the non-scholarship program at a school.

Also, I know that they put extenuating factors into the mix to make the decisions, so would basically living by myself for 4 years starting at age 13 be one?
