OSU vs UMN: chemical engineering

<p>I’ve been admitted to both schools and I am also invited to the honors programs at each school. After scholarships, both schools cost almost exactly the same amount. Which school would you choose and why? Is one school more respected by industry or grad schools?</p>

<p>UMN is almost always one of the top five, often one of the top three, and sometimes the number one chemical engineering department in the country. Not that tOSU isn’t excellent too, but ChE is Minnesota’s specialty.</p>

<p>With that said, both are good enough that what you do there will decide your outcome, not necessarily the school.</p>

<p>So are there any significant differences in the employment of ChemE’s from OSU and UMN? I know UMN is ranked very high consistently, but does that translate into a better job after graduation? If an individual graduates near the top of their class at either university, is there much difference?</p>

<p>^ That data is not really published. You can certainly look at the companies recruiting on campus at the two schools, but I don’t know how much that really tells you.</p>

<p>My gut instinct is that the difference is not large. If you have some reason to prefer tOSU, it’d probably be fine. Otherwise, it’s hard to lose with Minnesota - though I am biased :)</p>

<p>You may want to mention what the O stands for in OSU. Some people might assume Oregon or Oklahoma instead of Ohio.</p>
