Anyone else have kid(s) at the FIRST ( http://www.usfirst.org/robotics ) (inter)national championship this weekend? My S and his school team are there for the first time: a fitting end for an outgoing senior who helped found the team 3 years ago, I think. I’ve been watching matches on the webcams from the field in Atlanta ( http://science.ksc.nasa.gov/robotics ) and it’s really exciting! Today’s matches are all seeding matches; the final seedings will be done tomorrow morning, with alliance selection and round-robin championship finals tomorrow afternoon. If you want to get excited about it with me from afar, just PM me!

(Ooooh, I’ve just learned the match numbers in which my S’s team will be participating this afternoon and tomorrow, so I can keep the webcam tuned in at the right times. Wheee!)

My son did that in high school as well. I went to one of the regional matches not knowing what to expect. What a hoot!!! It was great! The stands were filled with the zaniest fans that I have ever seen - mostly (including adults) dressed in various costumes corresponding to their team. Probably most high school sports teams would be envious of the spirit and excitement that is displayed at these events. I just couldn’t get over the fun that everyone was having. Good luck to your son!

Alas, it looks like my nephew’s team got trounced (80th in their division, I think), but it’s only his first year doing this. I hope everyone is having a great time–it sure looks like fun on the webcam.
