Other recommenders

I have two good “other recommendations” to choose from. One is an employer from a summer job (a very good position) and the other is the adviser for an extracurricular in which I have held leadership for all four years of high school.

One particular college app requires only an extracurricular essay and allows one “other recommendation.” I am writing about my job. Should I use my “other recommendation” from my employer to validate my essay or the one from my extracurricular adviser to bring light to an other part of my app?

Thanks for your thoughts.

Neither of these is obviously better based on what you’ve posted so far. The primary value in recommendations is the insight provided into you as an individual. Which of your two choices knows you better and is more able to speak to intangibles such as your maturity, motivation, integrity, self-confidence, etc.?
