let’s forget about the academics for now…
on everything else (campus, hot girls, social life, prestige)… which is better?

where are the people?

ThomYorke, were you ever on autoweek forums?

About six months of freezing cold and snow in Michigan vs. about one month of that in Virginia. It does not matter how attractive the student body is if the student body is covered for six months.

uva campus is pretty, but kind of spread out

"About six months of freezing cold and snow in Michigan "

I live here - you tell me when the six months are.

at UVA it snows a lot. That’s what all the people say.

UVa has its strong honor code. U-M has one but it’s not enforced or taken seriously in the same way that UVa’s is.
Charlottesville is prettier than Ann Arbor, but Ann Arbor is bigger and has more to do.
U-M has three revenue sports (although basketball has been disappointing for a decade) whereas UVa only has two.
Nicer accents at UVa.
UVa has better donuts and BBQ. U-M has better bagels and hot dogs.

U-M has better art and music programs. U-M has a top Music School, and the Hill Auditorium is one of the best concert halls in the nation.

The awarding winning Ann Arbor Summer Art Fairs will be held on July 20-23 this year. Now in its 46th year, the event attracts over 500,000 attendees each year from all over the nation, and was recently named the Number One art fair in the country by American Style magazine readers survey.

My bad. Ann Arbor has an average of 139 freezing days per year. That is about 4.6 months or 4 months and 19 days. With that many days, it might as well be 6 months or longer.

Ann Arbor averages 47 inches of snow per year. Charlottesville has a mere 17 inches.

CAMPUS: UVA is prettier but Michigan is more impressive. Both have nice campuses, but I give the edge to UVA.

PRESTIGE/REPUTATION: Both are highly regarded. It depends who you ask and where you are. I would say Michigan has the edge here.

SOCIAL LIFE: UVA and Michigan both have great social offerings, but they are slightly different. In terms of social life, I give the edge to UVA.

ANN ARBOR vs CHARLOTTESVILLE: Both are great cities. Charlottesville is prettier, but Ann Arbor is quainter, more unique and more happening. Here, the edge goes to Michigan.

I would not worry too much about the little details. Both schools are excellent. Just go for the one you feel best suits you.
