Accepted as a transfer for interior design. Still waiting on FA letter, which will determine whether or not RIT is a serious contender . . .
Not enough FA to justify going, unfortunately. Ah well, at least my list is narrowed.
Any others out there waiting to get in? My son applied the first week of December RD. I think they start sending decisions in late February. Hope its rolling.
Yes @MSMead my daughter is still waiting as well, applied in mid October as RD. Would like to know!
My D applied RD for CS. She got a letter yesterday from the Golisano CS dept. At the top it said “thank you for applying, why should select RIT for CS”, and then a list, etc.
But then at the bottom in a highlighted box, it says:
The bold / underline were not added by me - they were in the letter. When admitted? Seems like a strange choice of wording.
Later, it says “Invitations will be mailed January - March (shortly after letters of acceptance are mailed from the RIT Office of Admissions)”. Not sure if that means that RD acceptance letters might be mailed soon? Or is “January” only for ED applicants?
Hey so I applied RD at the end of December to MechE/Aerospace. When I log into my current application portal, there is no indication that they have made a decision on my application…but when I click on ‘Events Near You,’ the accepted students reception dates pop up. If I try to register for one, the bar at the top says “Congratulations on your acceptance to RIT and welcome to the campus community! You and your parents/guardians are invited to celebrate your acceptance to RIT!” I have also managed to get access to https://www.rit.edu/myrit/ with an account under my name.
Since the only paper mail I’ve gotten from them so far is a cryptically worded invitation to a women’s engineering thing for accepted students, I’m going to tentatively say I’ve been accepted and they just haven’t sent out the packets yet.
@thshadow have your daughter check her portal, maybe you’ll be able to find something out there? I imagine her situation is similar to mine
My son can access that through the portal we well but has not received anything in the mail since Dec. Your of course are for women engineers so I wouldn’t expect him to. Its really difficult to wait it out.
@aerosEsq - assuming the link you went to was:
http://www.rit.edu/emcs/admissions/visit/events-near-you/accepted-student-reception?layout=accepted
I don’t think that means you’re accepted. Anyone can go to that link, whether or not you’re logged in, and it will say “Congratulations! You’re accepted!”
And no, her portal didn’t say anything interesting…
My S was a regular decision candidate last year, and applied late (late December/early January). I believe we were notified of his admissions decision in early/mid-February.
I have recollection that due to a mail quirk we received merit award info before his acceptance letter with the portal having been updated around the same time.
Best of luck to everyone waiting…
My recollection was wrong.
I went back and looked at the Class of 2020 thread. My S received his acceptance letter in the mail on 2/20/2016 which include information on merit awards.
@thshadow Thanks for pointing that out, I’m sorry for presuming anything. I’m almost too eager to hear back from someone (anyone?) regarding college applications so I jumped the gun trying to determine what that letter meant the other day. I did realize you could universally access that page shortly after I posted…oh well.
The only thing on my portal that has changed lately is that the list of items to-do for application review is now completely gone (previously it had every item with a check next to it).
My son’s portal still shows everything checked in green but they added a request for mid-term grades.
@MSMead that is good that at least something is happening ! my daughters’s does not show a request for midterm grades.
Accepted Regular Decision to Biology for Fall 2017. Russian International student coming from China, got an International Merit Award. The FA just isn’t amazing for international students compared to some other schools, really too bad because the school seems to be really liked by students.
@vb2000, looks like you are the first RD acceptance here – congrats! Sorry the FA is not what you’d hoped for. Now I’m wondering if international students get decisions first, or if this is a sign that decision time in general has begun. I looked on last year’s thread and there weren’t a ton of data points. But it seemed that decisions kind of trickled out from mid February to early March. And it’s hard to tell with the limited data, but I think higher stats kids generally heard earlier than lower stats kids (maybe that’s the case for you, @vb2000). I’m going to be as patient as possible.
@snoozn Thank you! I heard from them in December, was quite surprised so I am assuming it could be for higher stats. From what I can understand many of the decisions should be sent out this month, but I can’t remember if that was the case or not. Good luck to everyone!
congrats @vb2000 . It seems international students hear a bit earlier than others…there were other posters in this thread back in December who were also RD and also international. Hope it works out for you at a school that you will enjoy. DD has another school that is currently #1 on her list instead of RIT, and will be much more affordable, I think. But we really enjoyed visiting the school and this they have some excellent programs there.
I think RIT begins mailing acceptance packets on the 15th, 16th of February and continues through mid-March. Good luck everyone!
Mailing packets, like in the physical mail?
didn’t get acceptance packet, but my D got a letter at the end of last month from the college of computing sciences pertaining to ‘why should you select RIT for your computing science studies?’ and in the letter it said:
"When admitted to RIT you will be invited to a special program for women in computing students’
she also got a ‘save the date’ card from WIC (women in computing) for an overnight that will be held the same day as accepted students day.
i’m not sure what the thought process is, but it seems like a strong implication of acceptance, or it’s cruel to be sending these promising letters/postcards then to reject a student…
