Others here who are applying for Fall 2017?

For those accepted, in case you’re not aware, there is a new thread for posting application results and stats. Please take the time to post!

@CARacing actually D applied for software engineering. No award information in the envelope

MY DS received the big envelope today, for computer science! We’re in Massachusetts. His portal is not updated, nor did the letter or the portal say anything about potential merit, which we had been hoping for. He’s got pretty high stats, 1540 new SAT, 4.0 weighted gpa, all honors classes, a few AP’s, probably good recommendations. Strong high school. Very few extracurriculars. But he’s also gotten into Umass Amherst CS early admission, which is considerably cheaper with in-state costs, so we were hoping for merit. (We won’t qualify for financial aid) Does anyone know if merit aid comes separately, or if it’s not in the initial letter, you didn’t receive any? Good luck to all prospective students! These unoffical “rolling” admissions are painful…!

Nothing here yet. Now we have to wait until after Monday. GRRR… I stalk the mailman. Its almost easier when schools release them all on one date online. Then you know instead of wondering if the big envelope will come soon or be the last one out. Or, God forbid a denial. RIT is my son’s top choice. He hasn’t been denied anywhere yet but we are waiting on 3 schools that are 50/50 and one that’s a safety.

My daughter opened the envelope today - she’s in for Biomedical Engineering

Congratulations!

Son received acceptance 2/18 in mail. Finance Major. Still waiting on 6 more schools, RIT is definitely an option depending on $ package. Honestly it is further down on his list yet our visit there was a deciding factor to apply. Information session, tour guide and the campus tour led both of us to be excited about the college. I would like him to combine Finance with computer science, we will see. I hope we will attend accepted student day, which will be determined after his other decision are received. I think it is a great fit for him.

From what I remember from 2014, My D’s package arrived in California over a week after acceptances started showing up on CC. In fact she called and was told her over the phone,

Last year they started mailing on a Monday and a lot of acceptances showed up on CC around Friday and Sat. Since we have a weekend and a holiday this year I’m thinking by this Friday. There were acceptances on CC in March it seemed the bulk of them were already out.

FYI - we’re in NJ. My son’s envelope showed up last year on 2/20. Mail from Rochester takes a couple of days to our area (outside of Philly).

We’re in California. DD received her envelope from the CS department 2 days ago, on Saturday.

@theshadow Dang I hope I receive mine soon.

Has anyone who applied to the Interactive Games & Media department heard anything yet?

Any parents who have questions about the school I can try and answer. As my S16 is a first year the first semester/first year experience is fresh in our minds. You can either PM me or post here.

Best of luck to all over the next couple of days.

Thanks for the offer. Can you share his major and what he found to be the biggest challenge first semester?

My son got his package today in the mail. We live in North Carolina. Accepted to Motion Picture Science. We are so happy! Husband and I went to RIT. Motion Picture Science is a great and unique program plus he wants to minor in comp sci. Can not go wrong with that combo. Hope the money will make it doable, otherwise it’s Drexel which gave him $43k.

Just got the envelope, am here waiting for s to get home… Suspense much!!!

@AlumDadMA DS16 is a MechE/Aerospace option major.

I think his main challenge was time management/organization. He felt like the work wasn’t hard, but just the sheer volume of assignments across his classes added up to it feeling like a lot. And he was well aware, as it was a constant refrain during orientation, that students need to hit the ground running. You can’t afford to get behind early in the semester as it’s tough to catch up.

The other challenge, of course, is having the independence and being on your own/responsible for everything. No one is around to make sure you’re up for class, doing your work, laundry gets done and so on. There’s a lot to do, new friends to make, and take care of yourself.

He didn’t do a lot of extra-curricular clubs/sports first semester, and just tried to adjust to everything being new. He’s been more involved in some of the non-academic things this semester, and overall seems to be managing everything much better.

I will say, that the two areas I mentioned above, particularly the organization thing, we probably his greatest pre-college flaws. I’d suspect the same is true for most kids. If it’s an issue in HS it will, at least initially, be an issue in college. We feel like we’ve seen a lot of “growing up” over the first semester/semester-and-a-half. I think that’s true for most kids - they just all have their areas where it needs to happen.

@GoRedhead, steam is a wonderful thing when applied to envelope seals (I never did it though… 8-| )

S just got his envelope for ComputerEngineering. Could someone please post a link that points to the Financial Aid award?
We looked around for it and couldn’t find it. We searched through the envelope and we couldn’t find any mention of it there either. Even if we don’t get an award, I’m just looking for confirmation that we didn’t get any. But if we did get some, that’d be better.

If you can’t provide a link, can you show the steps to get to the right location?
