I can’t decide between going to University of Arkansas or University of Oklahoma. I have been accepted to both and they would cost around the same to go to. I don’t have friends going to either of them and am interested in biology but I don’t want to choose a college completely based on their programs. I am mainly focused on the social aspect and the fun that I will be able to have at the college. I am interested in rushing a fraternity. What are yall’s experiences with OU and arkansas and which college do you think has the best greek life, social aspect, and has the overall friendliest and nicest people?
Oklahoma’s SAE fraternity was in the news last Spring because many of the students were chanting racist slogans. With the current situation nationally regarding race relations, I personally wouldn’t want to be associated with Greek life at Oklahoma. I think many people will think of that incident if you tell them you’re joining a fraternity at Oklahoma.
I’ve heard that the University of Arkansas is in a beautiful hilly location overlooking the Ozark mountains. It would be best if you could visit both universities to see where you feel most at home.
I would imagine people are friendly at both universities. This entire region is very friendly.
I knew people that were SAE’s. People really don’t care about that as much as you would think and I it would never even come close to be not being affiliated with greek life. I have already visited both schools and it really didn’t help me that much. I will say though that I thought Fayettville was a considerably campus than Norman.

Yes, but one has to commend the OU administration for their prompt response to the racial antagonism.
President Boren had one of the best responses to that racism of any university. Compare what he did when confronted with facts about SAE versus what happened at UCLA and UT Austin.
OP, I totally disagree that people at OU won’t care if someone was a member of SAE. They are still loathed, even by this year’s freshmen. Of course, that’s largely irrelevant given that SAE no longer exists on campus and will almost certainly never be revived.
I have been satisfied with my time at OU and often recommend it to students looking for a larger institution. One positive about the University of Oklahoma as compared to UA is the suburban/college town location. While a college town can certainly be fun, it is nice to only have to drive 20 minutes to get the amenities of a larger city.
I agree with whenhen. It all depends on what you are looking for. I went to OU and it was nice being close to OKC, so I could hop a flight back home to NJ very easily. The people are friendly, the academics are good, sports are awesome, and the cost of living is cheap. I would think U of A would be similar in all aspects besides being close to a decent sized city and good sports teams.
I can’t say that I have ever met anyone from the Sooner State who wasn’t a pleasure to meet.
