I laughed at his Facebook quote: “If you see me in a fight with a bear, ‘prey’ for the bear.” I think he meant “pray”! Unless, of course, he was so disgusted he wanted to feed the bear…

I feel bad for him. He is such a fearsome competitor. As athletes age, they are more susceptible to injury and the exceptional Kobe is no exception in this regard.

Say what you want about him, but this is one player who really cares about winning and always has his head in the game. It’s always sad to see players get injured like this, especially a potentially career ending injury as a Lakers. I hope he makes a full recovery and ends his career right.

I hope he spends his recovery time making amends to his wife. I know that they’ve filed for divorce, but I’ve heard that they’re trying to work things out.

He’s worried that this injury is career-ending, and it may be, but when he’s on his deathbed he may be more grateful that he spent time repairing his family rather than adding more millions to his already very full bank acct.

OK…my former user name is Ellebud… And, by that name you might remember that one of my kids worked as an intern with the Lakers. (No, interns and team members were not permitted to fraternize with the players.) I would like to say but this: Kobe made a mistake a few years back and hasn’t repeated to behavior. He was ALWAYS respectful of all the interns. As my intern said, he has been in a weird bubble since he was a kid.

Vanessa and my family share the same hairdresser. He (hairdresser) goes to the house for private appointments…(for public appearances). Vanessa he said, a fantastic mom, polite and polished. He has met Kobe on numerous occasions. Same story as Vanessa.

Please note: We all say stuff on the internet and in print that we might not say out loud if the object of our snark attack were in front of us. I can tell you from personal experience long after the snark is written and forgotten by the original source the family reads and carries the burden of these posts.

I enjoyed his unfiltered rant on Facebook. Athletes are usually so guarded about their challenges: can’t admit fear, can’t acknowledge the possibility of defeat, etc.
