Our online identities

This thread inspired me to finally upload a picture. This is my dog, Panda, when he was a baby. My screen name dates back over 10 years ago when I couldn’t think of anything clever at the time and looked down at my 2 dogs, Fido and Princess. It was easy to remember but both of those dogs are long gone so it’s a nice memory, too. I have a freshman son in college and a 9th grade daughter so I’ll be here for a few more years.

This is an enlightening thread. Abasket, I share your weakness for baskets and all sorts of containers! I live in California and I am a morning person - a lark. No avatar yet, maybe soon i’ll post a pic of our beloved (though not brilliant) black Lab. I read everything on CC for a long time before I joined - not sure why? - but I still don’t post often. I have learned so much from others on this site, for which I am thankful. A special shout out to the Athletic Recruits posters, who helped us immensely.

My daughter and I love plants, especially those native to our state. She was applying to college when I joined CC. If I had done it a little later, when one of my sons was applying, I might have used a name like mom of wild plant–maybe weed mom? Oh, that does not sound good! Avatar is a plant that grows on gulf beaches–railroad vine.

HiMom…I wondered if that was Multnomah Falls…so pretty, been there many times!

HIMom, you might try resaving that photo in the correct orientation in a couple of different editing programs then loading the newly saved photo. I’ve discovered that Windows Picture Manager won’t keep the reorientation in Facebook so I use a different photo program and it’s fine.

Too many dogs so I changed my avatar to our cat for a while! And how come there are smilies for a monkey, pig, cow, chicken, dog, and bee, but no cat? :-q =^.^=

My screen name is the name of a famous ancient Roman general (full name: Publius Cornelius Scipio). Or at least he was famous until Julius Caesar came along a century or so later and eclipsed most of his achievements. Scipio was the one who finally defeated the invading Hannibal once and for all. My avatar is a picture is of a temple at Paestum, an ancient Greek temple located in Italy.

Mine is my home state/U and year of college graduation. I post here and the UW site- son did go to UW also so I have remote and recent knowledge of the place. I liked it when locations were in the sidebar- I had Wis-Florida for a brief time. If UW refers to the one in Madison, Wisconsin I went from a suburb to campus and it was a totally different world back then.

This is the first and only forum I’ve joined. I picked my screenname quickly and without thinking. I should have maybe chosen something with ‘mom’ in the title, as was pointed out to me by another poster who bashed my screenname choice. 8-| My husband & I have been known to wager friendly bets. We would tell the other, “I’ll bet you a chocolate chip cookie”, and whoever lost the bet would buy one for the other. That was years ago. We still say it, but we usually don’t follow through with the cookies anymore!

This is the only forum I joined too. My screen name says it all since I joined in 07 when I was desperate to find out anything about being a music major and this was the only sane place to go for the information. No one in the family had been a music major and it is a totally different experience. The information and help we received from the fabulous music majors forum were priceless. DD is a grad student now and I hang around to pay it forward and hang out here with other parents.

My screen name is because that is what my wife and have become over the past X years, says how much of our lives ended up dedicated to S’s music (he is finishing freshman year at a conservatory). The avatar is a photo reminder of the resident cardinal at our bird feeder, whom if they get empty lets me know it in no uncertain terms every morning, and who is just such an ego I couldn’t resist using a cardinal (even more fun, we named him, well, a succession of hims really, after a favorite music critic known for being just so picky and so forth:)

I flew F-15Es (and before that F-111s) in the AF for 20 years, and had the Callsign of Bullet since I was a young Lt ( think “Top gun”). I still go by that name in my work at the Pentagon, and I’m proud to say that the Generals there all call me by my Call sign everyday, to include the last two Chiefs of Staff of the AF.

Some of you may remember that my wife used to also post here under the name of BulletandPima. She was the first to join this site, and chose our “nicknames” as her username. My nickname for her has been “Pima” for years. Why “Pima”? Well, a long while back we we’re having an argument (like most married couples sometimes do), and she yelled at me “you’re so Anal! Your call sign should have been Anal!” So, in anger I responded with “Well, you are such a pain in my @$$! Your nickname should be PIMA!” We both started laughing so hard, the argument stopped then and there. And we’ve been BulletandPima ever since.

I didn’t respond to the survey either. I lurked a bit before joining CC and with three kids I knew I was in for the long haul. I wanted my screen name to reflect all three of my kids and they are all big into scouting. My oldest D16 is working to finish her Gold Award this year and will be going on a Destination trip backpacking the Sahara in Morocco this summer, S18 is working on his Eagle and going to Sea Base this summer and S20 just did ordeal for Order of the Arrow. Scouting is something that unites our entire family.

No survey response either, but mine is very specific to me: dentist, mom of 4 kids. Got the idea from an OT friend of mine. I use it on other forums, also, but I first used it on CC,

My screenname is a Doctor Who reference. I wasn’t feeling terribly creative. And the avi is a plaid and the brooch which goes with it.

My screen name reflects my D’s pursuit of music and the 1215 is my birthday, as there was already a plain musicmom on here. This is the only board I have ever joined, and I lurked for a while before creating an account. I do not want to post a picture of me or my dog because I have talked about co-workers and neighbors that I would not want to be able to identify me if they stumbled on this site. BTW, my dog is half Aussie, half Catahoula (looks like a big Border Collie) and he is a genius, too. Sounds like Aussie’s are known for their brains. If only he didn’t shed so much.
