Although we have had a number of dogs we only gave a name to one. All the rest were/are rescues. We didn’t want to have our babies dealing with yet another trauma.

However, today when I was walking around, I noticed a woman with the bulldog. He was being scratched by two people. Now this dog is so ugly, the face wrinkles…the pushed in chin…and the sweetest thing ever. When the owner was asked the dog’s name she smiled an said…Botox.

So Southern California…Anyone have a great pets’ name?

Not southern California but living in the Ann Arbor area, I can’t tell you how many dogs I’ve met named Maizey Blue (including my best friend’s dog!)

I remember adopting a dog the year that the Wings won the Stanley Cup. My sister and I were deadset on naming her Stanley. Instead, she was named Mia after the woman from Pulp Fiction (to this day I have no idea why she was named after a fictional coke addict).

The last two were named by me- IzzyBella and Cleopatra (she’s the one in my picture). My parents have said I’m not allowed to name my children >.<

I went through a stage where I named my cats after college basketball personalities. I had two Bobby Knights and a Scott May before my husband put a stop to it. These were pedigreed cats, too!

We switched to Willie Nelson and Waylon Jennings for the cats. Next one will be Jerry Jeff Walker.

such fun! The most common cat name at Caltech and MIT is Einstein. My g/f names her animals after shoe developers, J Choo, Ferrgamo, Gucci, etc. Another friend has a dog Martini. If I gave my pet Star Trek names, friends wouldn’t get it. I think Botox is a great name. I wonder if I had named a new pet for Heat BB star, then to have him leave for Cleveland… well, it was enjoyable while it lasted.

I know a Joe Cocker (cocker spaniel). Our rescue was a failed hunting dog. The original owner named all his dogs after tribes. Ours was a boy named Sioux. We changed his name. He didn’t seem to know his name anyway.

Our dog is a rescue. He was named Casper, but we didn’t like that. He was 4 when we adopted him. Being he was our first dog/pet it never dawned on us that we had to keep his name or that it might not work to change it. But we did and he adapted super fast!!! He is named Charlie after our favorite old neighbor next to our favorite place, our cottage. When he is in trouble we call him Charles. ;)

We had a wonderful orange cat named Flambeau. He was born on Mardi Gras day - Flambeaus are the torches that light the night parades. One of the world’s great cats…

Our gorgeous former cat was Bella. She was beautiful, mean and regal. Our latest cat is Big Daddy. He is 23lbs, huge and full of muscle. he was named that before he got to the shelter, but it was so perfect we kept it.

When D2 and her SO rescued their first dog last fall, he ended up having various degrees of deafness (he had horrible infections in both ears), blindness (has cataracts), and dumb (he has only barked twice since they’ve had him. So what do you name a dog that is deaf, dumb and blind? Tommy, of course!

When we moved to PA 14 years ago and adopted cats for our daughters (to replace my elderly cat that died before the move), for some reason we started naming pets in alphabetical order with Abbie (a calico who is the only one of the alphabet left). Thanks to a series of pet rats, we made it through to Yolanda, the last rat before youngest daughter left for college.

Technically, I guess we started with “Z” since the cat that died prior to the move was named Zero. I had picked her up as a kitten in the middle of a country road, while my husband was off on a hunting trip. Since we already had 2 cats and he hated cats, I figured I had zero chance of keeping her. But she lasted for 18 years.

We now also have a cat named Scott, who came to us when his owner died and his landlord (my church council president, so my boss) needed to rehome him. His name for 11 years was Butterscotch, but I changed it to keep our tradition of human names for pets other than Zero. He came when called by the new name within the first week.

One of the RHONJ has a hairless cat named Botox.

We changed two rescue’s names. One was Roxie and one Ella. We changed them to Lulu and Daisy.

My mother just had to change her new dog’s name from Holly to Molly because my cousin actually called and asked her to, because her grown daughter’s name is Holly. My mom thought it was a ridiculous request but decided it was not worth it to put up a fuss.
