One of the windows into an educational institution is to look at who is leading it. In Wesleyan’s case, our president, Michael Roth, is a distinguished scholar and teacher, and he has a new book out which explores history, memory and trauma. Here’s the link: [Memory, Trauma, and History](Memory, Trauma, and History | Columbia University Press)

I haven’t read his book, but, President Roth is making his voice heard in other ways, particularly where it concerns higher education. In addition to his regular contributions to the Huffington Post [Michael Roth](http://www.huffingtonpost.com/michael-roth) he keeps a regular blog on the Wesleyan website which he’s not afraid to use as a bully pulpit:<a href=“Exercising “a degree of freedom which rarely exists” – Roth on Wesleyan”>Exercising “a degree of freedom which rarely exists” – Roth on Wesleyan;
