Alas, there is not much room for passion chasing when stuck behind the Starbucks counter.

Precisely my point.

I do have an old injury from back in the day when I was serious about tennis. I would feel really uncomfortable if my ortho started to ask me about my aunts.

I am not up to date with placement statistics but there has to be a list somewhere.

Look, I have had posters not only endlessly criticize my kid as a nerd and a dork (these are adults who threw that epithet around, not some tween/early teen), but also stalk my kid in trying to find out his school, other classes and locations, age, eating and bowel movement habits, what have you. Not falling into that trap any more. There are some really strange people here. Some PMed to ask me to get help for my kid, as he must have Asperger’s or something else in the autism spectrum (according to them). It’s just plain ugly.

I am curious. Do you have the same problem with those that proclaim that the traditional American way is the best one, and that they feel bad for the kids raised in the that certain ethnicity way? Cause there is a lot of that around on these boards, including on this thread.

So, people with better social skills would also make for good doctors who can do seamless handoffs? Wow!

IP- don’t you want to read the studies before you conclude that they are flawed?

And is there a reason you change the subject every time you are challenged on facts?

Look, blossom, the current body of US doctors is overwhelmingly Caucasian. They are the ones screwing up. so they must be lacking social skills according to you. However, the entrants are 30-40% of that certain ethnic group. When all of a sudden social skills are put in the mix and coincidentally the bar becomes higher for that certain ethnic group (as, apparently, they have poor social skills, which of course is not true), to pay for supposed lack of social skills of the overwhelmingly Caucasian body of doctors, it smells. But then I am not a conspiracy theorist, so I am not drawing any conclusions.

“I just feel bad for the kids who graduate with a massive debt load and then get a job for which there is no need for a degree. I also feel bad for those kids who graduate and get a job for which there is indeed a need for a degree, but who were shortchanged in their education as the standards were lowered to accommodate the former group.”

Lets chop up these run on sentences into their seperate parts, so they can be looked at rationally, shall we?

“I just feel bad for the kids who graduate with a massive debt load.”

It is never wise to take out loans that will be difficult to pay back IF plans for a job turn into hopes. I dont’ think you’ll find a single CC parent that thinks going into massive debt for a college education is a good idea these days. But not every one a crystal ball 4 years ago- did you ?

“and then get a job for which there is no need for a degree.”

It goes without saying that the college applicants of 4-5 years ago , who were 18 at the time, nor their parents, did not see thecurrent national and worldwide economic conditions coming. Nearly everyone , including economists, save a few prescient ones such as Nouriel Roubini and Robert Shiller of Yale, did not. Did you?

But this sentence -

“I also feel bad for those kids who graduate and get a job for which there is indeed a need for a degree, but who were shortchanged in their education as the standards were lowered to accommodate the former group.”

which includes your favorite statement-
"the standards were lowered "
which you have repeated over and over, in one form or another, ad naseum, without any proof of how standards[what standards are you referring to??] have been lowered[ again where is the proof?] , is nothing more than your own, homegrown theory [ I’m being generous here] that agrees with your own personal conjectures/ and /bias.

And HOW are/were graduates WITH jobs short changed in their education?? This I would really like to see proof of…

"Look, I have had posters not only endlessly criticize my kid as a nerd and a dork (these are adults who threw that epithet around, not some tween/early teen), but also stalk my kid in trying to find out his school, other classes and locations, age, eating and bowel movement habits, what have you. Not falling into that trap any more. There are some really strange people here. Some PMed to ask me to get help for my kid, as he must have Asperger’s or something else in the autism spectrum (according to them). It’s just plain ugly. "

Wow! That is ugly and unfortunate. Sorry that happened to you IP, as it is totally inappropriate and unworthy of CC posters.

hehehe IP have you ever considered how your personal trouble with a lack of social skills makes you so offensive? You always write things about how people misinterpret you, you don’t know why you upset people, etc… So sad, so much potential yet you cannot communicate your point in an effective manner. Do you realize you have made over 1000 posts that are all trying to make the same point?

Perhaps if you had taken a few non STEM classes we all wouldn’t have to suffer through the never ending threads that bring up the same point over and over and over again.

No worries MPM, I don’t care. I have a thick skin. But I think that kind of nonsense doesn’t serve any purpose. Frankly, no personal attacks do. I prefer to debate content, not the person.

Yeah, but I am not suffering, so why should I take such courses?

Oops, I forgot that its all about you! You don’t want a debate, just a soapbox!

"Yeah, but I am not suffering, so why should I take such courses? "
And THAT sentence, all by itself, shows your utter lack of understanding of the importance of social skills in communications.
Those who are clueless, or indifferent, to how their words effect other people will have a hard time being heard.
And many who dont understand their lack of social skills, DO end up suffering, as what they say, is often ignored.
Is that what you want, IP?

Guys, come now, that was a joke. Sheesh!

BTW Lima, I am so happy that you see the potential in me. It made my day.

I actually don’t mind either way.

okey dokey,
then I suggest you not post on CC in the future, as the ability to communicate and reason and understand the viewpoints of others is valued here. It may not be elsewhere in cyberspace.

Why does everyone want me out of this board!? Isn’t it far easier to ignore me?
